Yesterday we showed you a controversial apartment complex's paint job. While residential homes can certainly stir up trouble with their paint choices too, we don't think this house is a troublemaker at all! We love that the homeowners chose this show-stopping, deep red for their entry stairs and think it looks great in combination with the green hues of the house's exterior colors. It almost gives a red carpet effect...what a way to greet your guests!
What do you think about this homeowner's decision to paint their exterior entry stairs red? Let us know!
I've seen worse...
...but it's by no means unique.

This is a very common place occurrence in the South (and maybe other places?).
Not a huge fan of this particular color but I do like the idea when executed nicely.
The best painted wood stairs I have seen are painted Charleston Green (black with a splash of yellow) paired with a light sky blue porch ceiling.

I'm more focused on the fact that the railings look rickety.

I don't understand these Austin posts at all.
What the Austin writer should do is get to the UT Law Library and post on the unbelievably huge variety of mid-century furniture and art.

When you go to buy porch floor paint---there are only very few choices to be had. This is one of them. Regular paint does not hold up as well as floor paint on floors.
I think my Grandmother used this color back in the 50's on her porch.

Here in the Midwest, we'd be more likely to say, "Look! Unpainted treated lumber stairs." Followed by "When do you think those people will get around to painting them like everyone else does?"

Ditto on the 'been there, seen that" nature of this post... in rural areas of ontario, painted porches are more common than not. After all, wood on the exterior of your house HAS to be either stained or painted... and dark muddy red isn't that innovative.

Ditto, sorry...

I looked at this post a couple of times, thinking I must be missing something. I have to agree with the others - this could be any house in the Midwest and is not at all unique.

Really? Is this post a joke? Yes. I think it is.

Not very unique at all.
That's the same color that was really popular all through the south in the 50s through 70s for doors and stoops and any other accent you can imagine.
It's not very eye catching at all. :(

one thing to remember is if you paint your porch steps once you will be doing it every year thereafter. every summer i see my neighbor re-doing her painted porch after all the winter damage. seems like a lot of work.

Four exclamation points for flippin' porch stairs.

"Red carpet effect"?
Talk about a stretch!

Outdoor painted stairs are hardly worth the "!", don't you think?
Adrienne, actually, if you want a really beautiful house to feature, please go to the big purple house on the corner of Park Place and Mary St...my friends live there, and it's definately worth a photo!
