We talked about new stores that were opening up in the 2nd Street District here in Austin not too long ago, and now we'd like to make good on our promise on showing you one of them: Kirk. While it may not be the deal lover's dream, it'll definitely be heaven for any design lover. Check it out after the jump!

Buying from this store and visiting this store is the ultimate indulgence. Filled with amazing authentic vintage furniture finds and gorgeous yet delightfully quirky contemporary accessories, this is your stop for one-of-a-kind finds for yourself and your home.
To quote the store's owner, Jeff Kirk, Kirk focuses on investment-grade 20th-century furniture, design-driven accessories and contemporary art and photography by emerging artists. By the looks of this gallery on our visit, Kirk is keeping its promises. We saw vintage furniture in the most amazing condition and by names as famous as Frank Lloyd Wright.
As mentioned, Kirk also specializes in pretty quirky accessories. Our favorite: these Park Planters by Tristan Zimmermann, meant to chronicle all the wacky things one might see or run into while taking a stroll in an urban park. The one pictured here depicts a mugging; the most popular one (and the one that sold out the quickest) depicts an activity so risque it can't be mentioned on a respectable blog.
What do you think about Kirk? Let us know!

Sure, it can't be written about, but you have a (somewhat grainy) photo of it when you blogged the Zimmerman planters before on April 1st, 2008.

Thanks for the kudos! (and the great write-up on Apartment Therapy) I'm the owner of Kirk, and to answer Brandy's question: that's a Paul Frankl sofa from the late '40s, and we reupholstered it in a Paul Smith for Maharam fabric. All of our current furniture is vintage btw, though that will be changing in January when we add Established & Sons to our inventory.
Also, we will have all of our small pieces for sale, including the naughty Tristan Zimmermann planter -- as for its mysterious subject matter, think George Michael :) -- on our in-the-works Web site in a few weeks. Charles & Marie already carries the Park Planters, but for many pieces we'll be the first retailer in the U.S. to sell them; most will be priced under $150.
Finally, the furniture's admittedly pricey, but a) we've priced it at roughly 20% less than what NYC and L.A. design galleries charge for comparable pieces and b) my "investment-grade" comment was literal: prices for good 20th-century design continue to skyrocket, even in the current economy.

Beautiful things. I love the Adrian Pearsall chair in the first photo. Do you think his work is becoming more known and appreciated? Two such chairs recently sold at ABC Carpet and Home in NYC for $6500.
