081308proto-01.jpg While there are certainly a number of great Austin thrift stores, few offer a streamlined inventory of just modern and mid-century items, and only one offers a viewing of these ultra retro pieces in a showroom that pays homage to the era in a clean boutique fashion. Prototype Vintage Design isn’t a new fixture on the Austin vintage furniture scene, but their brand new renovated and rearranged furniture showroom is! 081308proto-05.jpg Prototype Vintage’s recent merger with La Luz vintage furniture from South First Street (now closed) inspired their showroom remodel, and now the best of both stores are represented in this newly organized location, which they showed off during a recent grand reopening party. Priced reasonably and all in good condition, Prototype’s vintage furniture store is packed with style and quality.

081308proto-06.jpg Prototype Vintage’s motto “No filler, all killer” is the perfect description of this vintage boutique’s wares. They place only the best looking vintage pieces in their store in thoughtful and coordinated vignettes. Even if you aren’t looking for a specific piece of furniture, their innovative showroom arrangements are sure to inspire your own modern home décor. Featuring furniture, accessories and kitchen items, Prototype also carries many vintage clothing and shoe styles, in case you want to outfit both your home and yourself in one trip.

I love this place. I've stopped there a couple of times while in Austin and their prices were quite reasonable.
