We're actually a little embarrassed it took us this long to visit Uptown Modern. Though we had heard about it, yesterday was the first time we had a chance to travel up Burnet Road to investigate it ourselves. Boy, are we glad we made the trip! Owner Jean Heath spent over 20 years in the antique business before starting Uptown Modern a little over a year and a half ago. Even though she has experience in many periods and styles, one look at Uptown's showroom and it's clear Jean's got an eye for great furniture and accessories of the Mid-Century variety!

We loved how open and bright the showroom was (not stuffy and dark as some vintage stores can be); the place didn't seem too cluttered at all. The showroom features vignettes thoughtfully arranged and featuring many trends in home decor now, like the year's hot color yellow and lots of vintage needlework throw pillows. You'll never have to worry about seeing the same old things here; Uptown Modern gets new pieces in everyday and updates their website with new inventory each week.

Much to our surprise, Uptown Modern is actually two buildings full of vintage furniture and accessories from the 1940s through the 1970s, and features a courtyard between the buildings full of vintage patio furniture---great for Austin patios!
