The Wolfe Den
Austin

070609wolfe-01.jpg We showed you an award-winning restaurant here in Austin last week, and today we bring you some beautiful photos of a recently award-winning Austin residence. Architect MJ Neal, who you may remember from Kim and Paul's Twin Peak house tour, has created another good-looking modern home, with lots of interesting details...

070609wolfe-02.jpg The American Institute of Architects in Austin has awarded MJ Neal Architects a 2009 Design Award for the Wolfe Den, a modern residence built for a young family.

070609wolfe-03.jpg Filled with modern materials, unique space dividing ideas and surprising details, the home really blends the indoors and outdoors seamlessly. The exterior is also complimented by beautiful landscaping.

I love the blending of the outside and inside, this is really cool. Where in Austin is it located?

I wonder how well this house has been doing in the extreme Texas heat wave? Still a beautiful house.

What constitutes a "young family?"

The house has a geothermal a/c and a trellis shading the west sun. The owner tells us the passive solar design is performing extremely well and that his utility bill last month was very low. The house is located in the Bouldin Area.

Wow. It's crazy to see our home posted on AT. Thanks for the lovely compliments.

Zach_f, my finacee and I are the "young family" referenced. We're both 32.

Bailey_b, as barcelonaloca mentioned, the house seems to take the heat quite well. The front facade faces south, and takes the brunt of the sun's heat. Aside from the geothermal and trellis which helps shade from the West sun, we also used a fancy triple coat low-e glass, which I like to think helps somewhat. Our electric bill for June was $160.
