They claim that the Ribbed Hotel Towels by New York interior designer Chris Madden can be found at the unlikely source of JcPenney's for only $39 for a set of 6. While we haven't experienced these particular towels in person, we agree it seems like quite the deal! It got us to thinking about other places to find unlikely home decor deals.
We've shared before a great source for cheap lampshades and an unexpected source for bedding. What are your favorite secret sources of home decor, both unexpected and embarrassing? you can find things occassionally at goodwill. A friend bought me a ribbon vase (sold in the MoMA shop) from there...
for bedding, I usually get italian linens at a steep discount from smartbargains or overstock.com. actually, one of those sites also had yamazaki stainless serving dishes at about 60% off.
ebay is another wonderful resource. I bought a bunch of iitala dahlstrom '98 clad pots for 70% off. I found iitala knives in marshalls/homegoods.
Never had a wonderful furniture deal, though.

something I came across while ordering boots from Garnet Hill...they really mark their clearance linens down to nothing. I got two euro sized copper colored silk pillow shams for $2 each.

I've been using the JCPenney Chris Madden Hotel Towels for a few years now and they're great. They shed a bit the first 1 or 2 washes, but none after that. Best towels for the price in my opinion...Helps to have family that works for JCPenney too for that extra 20% discount.
