We’ll use our Irish roots as justification for this coverage of Vaugh Shannon, a young design company started by two cheeky Irish lads. At first we thought the Happy Lamp, above, was cute because it is blue and has feet…then we realised where the on switch was and how turning it on might make it, ahem, happy. Naughtiness aside, we have a soft spot for furniture that makes us smile, like the Walking Mirror. More below.

The Not a Lamp (Coastand) is a fun twist on the old coat rack, and cleverly hides away the hooks for a clean look. We also liked their Cityscape coffee table, which incorporates storage within the design concept. There is a nice blending of function and idea in their work. The studio was only founded in 2007 so it will be interesting to see how they progress. What do you think of their pieces?

The mirror is wonderful -- but so is the branch coffee table.
