This lovely Elwood apartment featured on The Design Files is a great example of how a consistent colour theme can bring your home together. Orange highlights are used throughout in the form of furniture and personal objects, while green creates a complimentary backdrop colour. The owner is based in Melbourne, but her style influences come from her New Zealand home and the ‘Pacificana’ aesthetic of the islands around NZ. See below for more images.

The 2 bedroom apartment is in a 1950’s art deco building near the bay and features an enviable layout where both the loungeroom and master bedroom open out to the garden. We particularly like the cleverly styled details like the collection of cowrie shell necklaces hung from the ceiling, the vintage green glass containers in the bathroom and the all-orange kitchen utensils – simple but full of visual impact. Color Combo: Two Tone Orange
Orange is such a great color to decorate with -- especially in the winter {if you live in a cold climate}. It adds so much warmth and energy. I've definitely been on an orange kick this week:

Such a nice place. Well put together and looks so comfortable and livable with no pretentious or ostentatious design tricks. Really like the warmth and the use of orange as hits is not over done. Thanks for the share.

Oh man, I LOVE this place. Why couldn't my "antique" bathroom in my condo have been green instead of pink??? (still saving $$ to redo)

It's totally true that repeating a palette throughout a home will help it feel cohesive. The trick is to vary where the colors are used. I have the same colors in every room, but they're rotated around and it's not obvious at all. E.g., in the dining room I have oatmeal linen curtains, and in another room I have nearly the same fabric on some chairs, and in the bedroom I use it on the headboard. Same thing with my favorite color -- a verdegris or "spa" or "silver sage" blue, depending on which retailer you're buying from. In one room it's on the couch in another it's the drapes, and in the bedroom it's in the coverlet.

Love it all except for the necklaces. Instead of being artistic, it comes off as being more retail.

oh... look at that beautiful original kitchen and bathroom!!!
I too live in Elwood, and it is so sad to see all the apartments that have been "updated" with very ordinary new kitchens and bathrooms. There are so few of these original beauties left in our area.
