When we were small our next door neighbour had the most beautiful blanket box for all of her teddy bears and dolls. We were so jealous of it and have longed for one for ever since. So when we saw how Kylie from All Things Lovely had transformed her old blanket box [above] into something amazing, all those jealous feelings returned. See why after the jump.
As all of Kylie’s other furniture in her office was white, she sanded back the blanket box and painted it white. She then bought some fabric and cheap foam for the seat and assemble it using a staple gun. A great weekend project with an even better result. Kylie’s blog All Things Lovely is a really good read, be sure to check out her other before & after of a 99cent eBay chair.

Wow - that's a great fabric and a nice transformation.

Fantastic results! The pops of color on the fabric are wonderful.

poop. I liked it much more before. Now it just looks generic, rather like something you can find in any store...the original has stories to tell, and the rejigged version has hidden all of its stories.....the fabric, however, is fun...just not there.

agree with wc_canuck. it looks nice for something you could pick up at target, etc., but i love wood! it's like leather, the older it is the better. knots in the wood, scratches, veneer. there's a story to be told!

In a few years everyone is going to be picking up these old pieces of furniture and stripping them down again (if we're lucky) saying "what possessed those people to paint over perfectly beautiful wood??"
It's like carpeting over hardwood.

I strongly prefer the Before to the After.

that is really cute. The before was not an attractive wood I usually don't like painting wood not in this in this case job well done.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Wow, so many opinions!I've never been on AT, was a lovely surprise.
Before you all start thinking I've sacrificed some gorgeous wood, it was a $60 pine blanket box which can be stripped back if I care to do so... it wasn't hardwood or anything special. Plus, seriously bad staining job in the first place by me when I was very young! Something had to be done.
Appreciate your thoughts though. :)

Oh some of you are crazy, the make over looks FABULOUS. So fresh and colorful, it now has a new lease on life. Kylie you saved it, I would have put the original out the front lawn for the trash man to pick up. How clever you are for transforming it the way you did. You've got a grreat eye.

As beautiful as it is in the after picture I kinda love the seeing the natural grains of wood especially on a trunk.

As someone who's shed tears after seeing timber furniture violated by paint - i think this was justified. Radiata pine tongue and groove board and pneumatic tools doesnt make an 'antique of the future'. The only story this box was telling was 'help me i'm ugly'.
Good job.

"help me, I'm ugly."
I guess now her story is "bitch please".

liked it before. agree that the "paint it glossy white!" of the future is going to be "get out your belt sander!"
