While it’s a luxury to have extra space around the house, it can be a curse if you have no idea how to use it. We had one of those spaces– a corner in our bedroom. For months we’ve pondered how to make the most of it but we really didn’t want to fill it for the sake of filling it. One Saturday morning at around 7:30am our bedroom corner got some direction from a garage sale bargain, see below…
We bought a brand new leather chesterfield armchair from a garage sale one morning for $80. From there we bought a standard lamp from our favourite op shop for $20 [complete with safari themed lampshade] as well as the marble side table for $20. The elephant and camel print are sheets of wrapping paper from Zetta Florence at $7.95 each while the frames were made at husbands work using left over timber from his students.
This corner has become one of the most popular places in our home- perfect for reading, phone calls or writing posts. While it might not be everyone's cup if tea [much like our carpet], for $135 or USD$86 even if it only suits us for a few seasons we think its money well spent.

While the total cost of your lovely new corner is indeed impressive, I think it's a bargain that would be pretty hard to duplicate. "New" leather chair (and a very nice looking one at that) for $80 Aussie dollars?! That was a steal. I'd consider it a tremendous bargain at twice that price--even in US dollars!
Good on ya!

P.S. - One tiny bit of advice you were not asking for: it might feel even cozier if you hung your two pictures lower maybe with their midpoints even with the top of the lamp fringe.

Agreed with the commenter who said the carpet is pretty awesome, and not in a good way. I thought you did a fantastic job picking the graphics from wrapping paper that you wanted to frame. They look wonderful.

that is a very cute corner. and my parents have that SAME carpet. every year they talk about getting rid of it, but it's still in really good shape so they don't!

yes, the midpoint of the frames should be at eye level or lower... the way their hung now, it makes your ceilings look lower than they probably are. great job though!

Or maybe hang one frame under the other on one wall. As it is, they make me feel a bit wall-eyed! Nice chair!

Oh I was just thinking the same thing as Meredith. I like the look and great job on the price.

Well done! The carpet's a bummer, but hey, at least it matches. Sometimes you gotta live with them.
Not sure about the prints... but yeah, it might be worth moving them just to see.
