We had no budget for new household things when we moved into our apartment this year. At first this was really frustrating, especially with the clutter of ‘everyday’ objects building up. Then came the moment of inspiration – small storage containers we didn’t know we already owned staring back at us from the kitchen cupboard.

A sculptural cake tin became a key catcher, a square cake tin holds bathroom products, the wire fruit bowl also serves as bathroom storage and vintage bowls hold jewellery and things in the bedroom – if we ever need to use them for food, we just wash them.
Re-appropriating what you already own is a fun way to create new looks in your space and definitely the most budget friendly! For small storage, the kitchen is the best place to raid.
What storage solutions have you re-appropriated from one room to another?

Great post... I have some vintage, well loved, baking pans from my Grandmother. They aren't something I still use, but I love the memories that they hold, this would be a great use for them. Thanks.

I love this idea! I have this pretty vintage milk white bowl I use on my bathroom counter to hold lotions and such. I have other vintage bowls and containers I'm just waiting to figure out where to use. I love the idea in my bathroom though!

I love the old bundt pan! I have old glasses with newsprint on them in my medicine cabinet for tweezers, nail clippers and such, use bowls for ticket stubs and serving trays for landing strip items like keys, sunglasses, etc.
I think I have that same pie dish, too.

I use a single-serving casserole dish to corral all the remotes at the media center -- if you gotta have 'em, why not make it 'art'? I also use a plastic-coated wire silverware holder from a drying rack to contain all my charging cords for cell phones, bluetooth, etc. It's the right size to sit directly beneath a kitchen counter outlet.
