apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Drive-thru Gallery
Australia

Eastlink1.jpgOur states newest tollway, Eastlink, opened in the last month. Not only does it save a decent amount of time from A to B but it also offers 4 pieces of large scale artwork along the way...

Eastlink2.jpgThe one the looks like m&m’s is “Ellipsoidal Freeway Sculpture” by James Angus and is 36 meters long. “Public Art Strategy” by Emily Floyd is the giant blackbird standing over a yellow worm. “Hotel” by Callum Morton is by far the one I enjoy the most. If you thought your apartment was small this entire complex stands only 20 metres high, 12 meters long and 5 meters wide at night the “hotel” lights up using solar power. “Desiring Machine” by Simeon Nelson is intended to resemble a fallen tree… apparently. This $5.5 million project has been quite controversial - what you do think? Enjoyable or waste of money?

Awesome. I think I like Ellipsoidal Freeway Sculpture best.

Agreed: Awesome. But then, I always think public art is worth the money.

Plus, the bird is cute.
