Holiday Season: What really makes you smile?
Melbourne

Our family’s Christmas lunch is a case of too many cooks somehow not spoiling the broth, and with 21 people coming, this year is going to be a big one. As we all converge at our grandparents house, there is an atmosphere of organised chaos fine tuned over time into layers of tradition. Beyond gifts and spiked punch, it’s the happy chaos of our family celebrations that makes us smile at Christmas. More after the jump.

In the final week before Christmas it’s easy to get caught in a frazzle trying to anticipate everything you have to do in the lead up to the family lunch/dinner celebration. Reminding yourself of what makes you smile at this time of year can help you regain sanity during those ‘I’ll never get it all done in time’ moments. And as Laure mentioned earlier this week, pass that smile on to those around you, most likely caught up in their own frazzled worlds.

What are you looking forward to? Grandma’s perfect turkey stuffing, catching up with loved ones, or sleeping in and lazing about on Boxing Day?

Tell us what you’ll be smiling about this holiday season.

It snowed here in Vancouver the other day, and I decided to go out and do some christmas shopping. Strolling along 4th Ave, with the snow gently falling among bustling shoppers brought a smile to my face; they seemed unfazed by the white stuff, fully intent on finding gifts for others. Then walking back to my place, a walk I have completed in balmy summer weather with greenery everywhere, to being surrounded by oranges, reds and yellows of chilly fall, and now finally walking in a crisp white winter wonderland. On top of that, neighbours shoveling snow from their sidewalk portion, with that indistinguishable snow-shovel-on-pavement-sound, really could have converted any Scrooge. I couldn't help but quietly sing 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year'...

Going over my Holiday calendar with my sweetie. We have plans every evening from tomorrow Dec 19th- Dec 28th. Its going to be busy but I'm so looking forward to all the holiday cheer. I love hearing holiday songs on the radio and no one can say Happy Holidays with a frown! Mostly, I love time off work! Let's face it, we can all use a break from this past year.

The thing that made me smile most, was the yearly gift basket from my best friend's family on the other side of the country. They send one and we send one. Last year was a disaster! The company shipped them the wrong basket! So they got two! I took no chances this year and sent a picture of what I sent.

Most of all, I love that LOS ANGELES is finally cold! and I mean below 50!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A JOY-FILLED YEAR TO COME!!!
