Cotton Pick'n Art

080709cottonreels01.jpgWe long to have a permanent creative space instead of lugging the sewing machine and supplies out onto the dining table anytime we feel inspired. We had our socks knocked off when we saw how Kirsty was storing her cotton reels, using an IKEA frame and some free pencils. Good looking, practical and space saving, see more below the jump…

080709cottonreels02.jpgAfter receiving some free packs of kiddies pencils, Kirsty shaved the pencils down so the cotton reels would fit over them. She then spacing the pencils evenly apart on the frame and glued the ends down using PVA glue. Matching the pencils and thread colours in most cases, we think that this is a really clever and creative approach to storing cotton reels. We think it’s the perfect art for ones creative space. More info available on Kirsty’s blog kootoyoo.

Great way of finding another use for pencils. I didn't realize what they were until rereading the post. Love it and I have the same problem; I too don't have a permanent place for my sewing machine as well.

I'd've sworn that I saw this before, on this site. A neat idea... But what if she gets more thread?

Not really an efficient use of space at all! Look at all the dead space between the spools. A shallow box is the place for thread.
