Shelley and Stephen’s Poster Perfect Home
Melbourne

081209tdf0001.jpgOne of our favourite daily reads, The Design Files, featured this fantastic home yesterday belonging to Shelley and Stephen Trbuhovich . The couple run their own business, Galerie Montmartre, selling original vintage posters and signs. Spending their time surrounded by such beautiful objects both at work and home– we are green with envy! See more after the jump…

081209tdf0002.jpgFilled with numerous collections of vintage objects, posters and even 4 highly sought after Featherston chairs, Shelley and Stephen’s home is charming. We really like that this home is stylish while being a friendly, family home. Antiques and vintage furniture combined with children scares us silly but Stephen and Shelly have clearly got it figured out. Very cool. Lucky children, to grow up surrounded by such beautiful objects, textures and colors!

The biggest thing parents can do with children is begin when they're small and teach them how to respect things and to appreciate what they have and then you can have them around antiques and such, they'll be much less likely to abuse stuff and the same thing goes with ettiquette and manners - as well as boundaries too for that matter.

Nice place there BTW.

Love the vintage posters. I'm trying to find something similar for my office, but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars.

Can anyone suggest some alternative places to purchase similar art?

You can get such posters on eBay for less than a quarter of those prices.

Maybe the children wear shock collars that zap them if they touch anything built before 1992? ;)

Seriously, I'm amazing that things like the stacks of bakelite radios could survive the presence of children. Even the sweetest, most delightful toddlers have trouble resisting buttons and dials.

Or it could be that I'm just seething with jealousy. Antique technology, Featherston chairs, vintage travel posters... it's like they decorated with my all time deepest wish list.

Thanks for the nice comments, i'm sure Shelley and Stephan will be very flattered.. :)

re: cheaper alternatives to vintage posters... Just thought I would clarify that Galerie Montmartre's prices are actually extremely reasonable by international standards for collectable, original posters. You can buy cheaper reproductions on eBay, but they're not original posters, they're just digital prints, thus they are not collectable and will not go up in value over time. There is a lot of confusion over the value of original vintage posters... For more info visit Gal Mont's website.
