"Touch Me" Sue-Ching Lascelles
Brisbane

081808sue.jpg“Touch Me” is the appropriate title of the piece above by Brisbane artist Sue-Ching Lascelles. This interactive sculpture features 200 outstretched arms hanging from the ceiling for you to walk though. Each felt limb is very detailed and even completed with felty fingernails.

You’ll either embrace it or run far away from it but you cant deny how almost realistic it looks- for felt hands.
081808sue02.jpgSue-Ching’s other work includes “We Make Shadow Puppets” which is a collection of felt hands sculpted to create shadow puppets with the shadow cut-out in vinyl behind and “Meaty” which is like touring a butcher of felt meat. We love the steak ottoman. You can visit Sue-Ching’s blog here081808sue03.jpg

This is not the work of an artist, this is the work of a psychopath.

This is what you would find in the freezer of a butcher shop that sells humans by the pound.

I love it when people get all judgmental over some of the more unusual stuff that is shown on this site. It's like people get some sweet anger release hurdling insults about things they personally don't find appealing. Plain Jane- this is the work of an artist. It may be art you don't like, but it is art. The talent to collect a bunch of mass produced knick-knacks and display them on a shelf may not be art to somebody else yet people don't get nearly as enraged about people calling knick-knack arranging "art"...

Art is made for people to judge it---it always seems
someone like (teeze) gets so up tight over this idea.
There are a lot of high paid people out there who judge art. If art was not judged, then we would all be artist.
Does (teeze) not ever, ever make a judgement on movies He or She may see? If you like something then say I love it---if you hate something then say I hate it!
God only knows how many people judge room interiors all the time in magazines.
The only times one should be really kind is when dealing with a child or young person who is learning to be good.
Or a person who may have problems in life and needs a kind word or two to make it through a day.
This artist here, good or bad, is out for the crown of gold that comes with artistic success!

Not all people who garden are gardeners.
Not all people who decorate a home are interior decorators either.
Not all writers are good writers.
The list is endless and people all make comments about anyones abilities good and bad.

To poptart,

Judge the art, not the artist. I think Teeze took exception to the fact that plain jane called the artist a psychopath. I have to agree with the general opinion about the art here, but I think that saying the person who created this is NOT an artist is a bit harsh. Calling them a psychopath is downright rude. If sarcasm was intended, use some emoticons or something.

This reminds me of the root, the core, the basis of Fluxus (There was a girl in there, I've forgot her name, who made something similar but it was with penises and not hands), I love it, love it, love it

P.S. If anyone remembers the name of the Fluxus-related woman who made that installation I am talking about, please speak up! I would love to see her work one more time

This may be the creepiest thing I've ever seen.

Art aims to elicit emotional reactions. This works.

Thank You discomonkey---I may have read teeze's comments to lightly at a late night hour. I do think she should of commented, more directly, about the use of the word psychopath though.

Freaking awesome. What an acheivement. I can't imagine how long it took to create so many life-like arms. Awesome job, and you are most certainly an artist! Ignore the haters - you are amazing.
