Whilst cruising Flickr we came across this fascinating apartment block. From what we’ve gathered the block is known as the Sirius Apartments located on Cumberland St, The Rocks, Sydney. It was built in the 70’s as a housing commission project – low cost housing flats. More pics below.

The building must have amazing views – it looks over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and you can see the Opera House in the corner of one image. The block has a few fans on Flickr, which is great for spying. We love how they look like stacked cubes – we’re also very curious to see what they look like inside. This goes on the sightseeing list for our next visit to Sydney.

I usually hate brutalist architecture, but I love this! Throwing a little whimsy into the mix with the stepped boxes makes all the difference.

Very cool looking, and they do have a great view to the East/North, but West & South they are RIGHT ON TOP OF the Harbour Bridge on/off ramp traffic....noise and pollution...opening those smaller windows probably not recommended.

I've actually been to these apartments; they are located on a very choice piece of real estate. In order to move in a person has to have a pretty good sob story about low income, but then they stay in for life. The parking garages were loaded with Audis, Volvos and BMWs (apparently once you are a resident it is really hard to get evicted). The neighbors who are paying market rates are not charmed by the residents and their fabulous deal at taxpayer expense.
