Southwest Fall Cure: A Note About Parties
Week 8 - Weekend

Our own Laure's much talked about, much raved about, pumpkin soup with parmesan crostini. Simple soup, awesome presentation. A metaphor for home.

While we're not hosting a party to celebrate the end of the fall cure this weekend (our own party is in two weeks), we'll be attending a few parties. Two of the great things about parties, having cured our home?...

KoKo Studios has this lovely bed, handmade by her father for her wedding present, to cradle her and her family in sleep every night. Talk about protein furniture!

The first is coming home after a long night out at a party at someone else's home and entering our own warm, cozy space with a bed that is ready to fall into, knowing that when we wake up late and maybe a little worse for wear, we've got the makings of breakfast here, a clean bathroom where we can take a long soak in the tub, and a living room where we can curl up on the couch and recover.

TV's Jessica has this great bathroom to make her happy to be home and send her off on her day with a smile. Beautiful objects, colours, organized and clean are simple but effective fixes for any bathroom's ills

The other's knowing that our own home's party ready to welcome visitors (and to be photographed for this magazine) and that we can spend the next two weeks enjoying the holiday season, worrying only about the menu and how we're going to decorate.

Tamar.in.the.desert's tea drawer has a better, and more elegantly presented, selection than you find in most restaurants.

Oh, one other great thing about parties, now that we've cured our home? Easy clean up because everything has its place (this is an especially good thing because now that we've cured our home, people come more often and stay later).

What's been the best thing for you about doing the cure? Are you happy with your progress? Has it changed your relationship with your home? How are you planning to celebrate?

I've learned to re-evaluate what I consider "necessities" during this cure. I realized that while I may know exactly what I want, that doesn't mean that it's possible or even necessary. I've also learned to slow down my decision making process. It's important to be able to make decisions, but I need to do so with reason, purposed and a clear view of how to make the decision happen.
Because of that, I have a few ideas on hold, but the longer they wait the more I see how non-essential they really are.

I still have a few odds and ends to complete from my to-do list, such as putting together my landing strip and hanging some sheer curtains between the "bedroom" and "living room." But more importantly, I have a lot of things to get out of my apartment and a lot more organizing to do.
And of course, December is an insanely busy month at work and with my own social life. There's no time to have a party, but I will try to at least have a friend or two over for some lounging (and maybe baking!).

sparkle, I totally hear you. I just binge cleaned out the storage area along the side of my studio. Getting the stuff out makes such a huge difference and makes me think differently about what I actually need to bring in. Sometimes empty space is the best space!

Ditto on the pumpkin soup. Please at least link it!

I am going through the most intensive cure of all...moving. I leave my house in a little less than 2 weeks, and I am purging everything that isn't sentimental, functional, or specifically makes me happy. It's amazing how much junk a person can acquire without even realizing it...and I'm not even a packrat! It is very refreshing though.

Also I really like that bathroom. Something tells me that it doesn't look half as cozy without all those details. Beautiful, simple design.
