Tough week, huh? But it feels good, clearing out stuff, doesn't it? And, it's nice to have a kitchen that feels full of the possibility of fabulous things to eat. Even if you haven't actually gotten rid of anything in the rest of your home, having the outbox as a place to temporarily dump stuff (for us it's always the mail!) lets us see our home
as it could be and that excites us...

This photo is the basis for J.L.'s style tray.
This weekend, if you haven't done so already, cook one meal in your kitchen. Baked eggs is a great choice for brunch for one, two or a crowd that looks super fancy but is actually easy. We make 'em in muffin tins. And pasta, of any kind, is easy enough for even non-cooks
The weekend, when you're probably spending more time in your home, is also a good time to observe what you're doing in each room or when you're frustrated because you'd like to be doing something and can't for whatever reason. When we did the cure, we noticed how we wanted to read in the living room but first, we'd need a place to do that and some light to read by. Onto the shopping list went a couch and some lamps. Also when you're moving stuff to the outbox temporarily (don't be shy about using it, it's an amazing tool that we continue to use), check where it's coming from. Do you like that the mail piles up on the kitchen counter? if you don't, think about creating another place for it.

spedie1 has a great galley kitchen that gets a lot of light and has the tiled countertop and backsplash common to many classic Los Angeles kitchens. Her landlord's offered to pay for some updates to it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm so excited to go home tonight and get started on finishing week 2! I've decided to keep my weekend to myself so I can properly complete my to-do list. I know I won't get everything done, but I WILL at least finish it (no loose ends!).

Hey - that's my galley kitchen! I'm actually getting an almost complete renovation - new floors, countertops and cabinets. Demolition starts Monday, so this weekend, I'll be clearing everything out. I'm so excited to be able to cook again. What you can't tell from the picture are the poor conditions that make cooking a real pain. Basically the countertops give me the heebeejeebies - the grout is either really dirty or just missing, cracked tiles, etc. - they might have been original to the 1930's house. It's a shame that they couldn't be restored, but at least I'll now have a nice clean surface!

Lotsa cool stuff, but I couldn't let the Persimmon Fiesta Monarch Vase go unnoticed. Yes.... I need a life....
