dzinelvrslc found this ottoman and bright orange throw in the "as is" section at Ikea. The bright orange colour of the throw brightens up the neutrals of the rest of the room and is like a cozy ray of sunshine on a rainy day.

- Cure Clock: 4 weeks remaining
- Assignment: Read Chapter Seven, declutter all media and create a master shopping list
- Flicker Pool: Southwest Cure Pool. See how everyone is doing! Upload your progress photos! Share your success!
So, here we are at the end of the week, halfway through. How's your living room? Decluttered or getting there? This weekend, we want you to go into your kitchen, make yourself a nice hot beverage and take it into the living room and just sit there for ten minutes and survey the room. Then make a list of everything you've accomplished in the last four weeks and pat yourself on the back. Woo hoo! You're doing a great job. Revel in your accomplishments and
please share them with us in the comments...

Lisa Makes is considering two options for her landing strip (current landing strip is on the left). Which option do you like or can you suggest another option for her? (She's leaning towards the one in the middle). The red and white piece is a mail holder she found on EBay)
Some thoughts on your shopping list: Don't forget that if your budget is tight, there are places like Freecycle, the free section of Craig's List or the street that can yield great finds that only require a little time to make them great. (Plus, we'll be having Le Swap soon). We've blogged a number of ways to transform your furniture including using a photo, paint (do it yourself or ask your local auto body shop to do it with high gloss auto paint, a finish which mimics lacquer) and mirrors. The "as is" section of Ikea is a great resource and their unpainted wood furniture is the perfect foundation for your imagination.

Sparklerawk decided to hang her knives on her kitchen's door (which always stays open). They're accessible and they double as art!
Deep Treatment
- Clean up Living Room and Related Closets
- Declutter all books and media
- Confirm what you need to increase or decrease colour in each room
- Identify what you need to increase or decrease softness in each room
- Cook three meals at home this week
- Send out your housewarming invitations
One Room Remedy
- Begin your shopping list and enter all prices into a spreadsheet
- Decide on the total scope of the work to be done
- Consider hiring a professional organizer
- Visit a paint store this week to get samples
I lean toward the one in the middle, too... like the right one, but less storage.

I love the throw. I just wanted to say well done Southwest Cure Poster person, the weekly posts for you guys always come up in such a timely manner.

I like the middle one too. I got my book from Amazon Japan too late and so I've barely started the Cure, but I live in a studio so maybe I can still join in!
PS. the knife display is cool!

The middle one is nice too but it's plastic. If that's not an issue that I'd go for it! The one on the right is great too and can be painted.

Like the knife display qua display, but not on a door. That looks like an accident waiting to happen.

I am in love with the living room in the top picture. I am going to check out more Flickr photos from this set.

EastVillageAmy,
Thank you!
Olivia Tokyo,
Better late than never as they say! Please, join us. Even if you get just a little bit of curing done, your home and you will be much happier for it. Figure out a landing strip, start collecting ideas & images for a style tray, upload your pix to our flickr pool and don't be shy about asking lots of questions of Laure and I. Jump in right here and get rid of some media this weekend.

JonathanB, I thought the same thing as I was hanging it.
I'm quite accident prone (I've already sliced my thumb once while using the bread knife, go me!) and was pretty sure that I would end up stumbling into the door and knocking down all the knives. But holy crap, those knives aren't going anywhere!
They're pretty high off the ground (for a 5'9" girl), so it's not possible to accidently brush against them while walking by (trust me I tried... I needed to know how dangerous I made my kitchen). Also, that magnetic strip is like the freakin' magnetic field at the center of the earth. I can barely pry a knife off of it, let alone knock them down by accidently bumping into the door. Yes, I tried that too, I also tried shaking and kicking the door. I'm pretty sure if I took the door off the hinges and smashed it on the ground, the knives would still be on the rack. :)

Wow, I'm so behind. The kitchen remodel through me off track and the living room is more cluttered now than during Week 0. I'm slowly deciding what goes back in the kitchen cabinets vs. what can be purged, so right now everything is all over the place.

Just uploaded some photos of my progress over in my Flickr account. I baked instead of cooked, I'm in the process of going through books and mags. STILL having a hard time figuring out layout of furniture in the living room. Hoping to solve that this weekend. :)

I've been doing the home cure on my own since I moved in the middle of October, but it looks like I'm right about where everyone else is. I spent the first few weeks on the kitchen. Over the last week in the living room, I arranged the books in our bookshelf, hung a picture above the couch (was going to hang the others, but didn't have any nails handy - the one I hung stuck with velcro strips), and purchased fresh flowers, candles, and hurricane vases. Last night I brought in the chair my sister is loaning me, so I think the living room is about done.
Today I started working on the bedroom. I painted a "headboard" from floor to ceiling. I'm going to hang 3 empty ivory oval picture frames in the space. Beyond that...it's a work in progress.
I'll take pictures and upload them to Flikr. As soon as I find my camera. :)

I am glad to find the Southwest post v. West because part of my Cure is moving kitchen "stuff" from Denver to New Mexico where I've come into a small adobe (and believe me I know how lucky I am!) The NM place will be my cabin/nest rather than my primary residence but emotionally it will be my refuge. So I want to make it right from the start.
