apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Fall Cure: Getting Oriented & Week One

10-4-week-one.jpgWelcome to AT:LA's First Eight Step Cure! This week kicks off the start of Curing our homes, following the eight chapters of our book, Apartment Therapy: The Eight Step Home Cure. What's our goal, you ask? Well we're all going to hold hands as we work towards making our own homes beautiful, healthy and organized in time for Thanksgiving. For all info go to the The Book Blog.

This Week's Assignment: Get your hands on a copy of the book and read through page 69. This gives you all the ground work and gets you started with the interview and short quiz on the health of your home (links to worksheets after the jump).

We'll be posting the week's assignment on Mondays and then checking in with everyone on Thursdays to see what's been going on--so comment away and share the successes, the struggles and the solutions! We will be pulling comments and pics to the front page post each week and everyone is urged to take pics and post them to the LA/Southwest Flickr pool or simply tag them with "apartmenttherapycure." See pics from past cures here too.

The LA Cure is incoporating all of the Southwest and this means SoCal, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Mexico, Baja--we want to see your homes!

You can check out the other home sites to see how they're doing too::
Chicago & their Flickr group
San Francisco & their Flickr group
New York & our Flickr group
Green Home & their Flickr Group

So dig in and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

this cure is coming at the perfect time. i'm looking forward to getting my kitchen, the dining room & the hallway done in time for the holidays (approaching fast & furious) and that holiday party that i promise myself i'll have this year. the handyman came today to check out kitchen's cracked ceiling so that'll be fixed sometime this week and then he'll paint. he may also take down the ceiling in the bedroom closet -- there's this awful smell that i'm sure is a dead something or other. so closets may, inadvertently, become a part of this cure. i've got another handyman coming thursday to put in the chandelier in my dining room & move the fan that's currently there to the kitchen. this cure has started!

That "awful smell" may win the prize for Most Unhealthy Single Feature right out of the gate... yikes!

Having wrecked my back unpacking, today I am stuck at home trying to wrap up online shopping for various move-in projects that are interfering with actual moving-in. (Every now and again I wonder if it would be that difficult to just lie on the floor at work... but with a desktop computer, you really can't.) While it's early in the Cure to s-h-o-p, we know the closet doors must come off and be replaced with curtains, so there's no point in waiting.

wende,

it will get fixed! that's the point of the cure after all! and i'm crossing my fingers that it's not as bad as i've made it to be in my mind.

The timing on this Fall Cure is all too perfect! I just got back from a week-long out-of-town business trip (in Vegas, no less) and I've been dreaming and scheming of everything I could do to make my apartment a happier place.
So I'm ready to finally make it happen AND see how everyone else is making their happy homes happen.

Hello fellow AT cure folks. I have started by pinting the living room, cleaning out old clothes and shoes and putting cup hooks in. Look forward to seeing inspiration. My phot set for my living room is here

Hey Guys--

Phew finally back from my vacation and SO looking forward to this cure. Remember to upload photos to the Southwest Flickr set so that we can all share in the progress.

So now that you guys are starting to get through the first couple chapters of the book, do you have a clear goal? Deep Cleaning the whole place or just one room? Anyone have any 'ah ha' moments while reading?

Hi,
Love the leafy wall in the top pic!
I (and hub and 2 kids) just moved into a new place and I'm the busily working making it Home, but in a rather haphazard fashion.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's places coming together...
