Following up from a post from our AT:NY site, we thought we'd mention one more wallpaper maker, Cavern Wallpaper.
Based out of Los Angeles and Brooklyn, the bi-coastal team of Carly Margolis and Ophir Tanz (both 24!) are drawing lots of attention in the design world. Even though it's getting more popular, a lot of people are still afraid of wallpaper, and I asked them their thoughts on that...
"We think people still shy away from wallpaper because it conjures up images of their granmother's pea-green house with wall to wall carpeting and floral patterns adorning every wall in the house. There is a stigma attatched to it..." says Ophir. "We absolutely believe that our papers encourage people to revisit wallpaper as a viable and highly-desirable option and break down that stigma."
Cavern's debut line made its appearance at the recent ICFF show. The designs and patterns they showed evoke a sense of both the traditional and contemporary. Ophir explained that Cavern's line "represents a graceful, modernist take on natural environments." You can get Cavern's wallpaper and see their entire collection from their website, or through Show, or Walnut Wallpaper & Trim on Beverly Blvd (310) 932-9166.

I've seen the Salt version of their TIGERLACE print in person and it is stunning!
I saw Cavern's wallpaper in person at the ICFF show about a month ago. Their designs and colors are inherently unique, timeless and very "now." The white tiger print on white is quite sexy. I have not seen any other US wallpaper companies designing to this caliber yet.
I had a chance to check out some of Cavern's designs at a gallery recently.
I always thought that their designs were beautiful and fresh... but my expectations were blown away when i saw them in person. You really have to feel and see these wallpapers up close.
They have a delicate thre-dimensional quality to them that cannot be expressed in images.
We are opening a Los-Angeles based music studio and when we saw these designs in person we begged Cavern to set aside some peaflock for our lounge area. Will be perfect!
I too saw the cavern wallpaper at the icff. The prints look amazing in person, there's all this metallic detail that is subtle, yet quite striking. I'm a huge fan...
I have always been averse to wallpaper until I checked out Cavern's designs. I think they are making wallpaper cool again.
The Blackbird pattern is pretty rad! I love that there is no defined repeating pattern. The other designs are just as strong.
Cool website too!
Leave it to the young minds to break the mold.
