ATrealpeoplebook.JPGHere's another in our ongoing series of updates andsneak peaks of those featured in our newest book: Apartment Therapy Presents: Real Homes, Real People, Hundreds of Design Solutions. Former ATLA contributor Vanessa De Vargas was so kind to take time from her busy schedule operating her Venice decor shop, Turquoise, to update us about her 2005 I've Got Color beach bungalow entry with some fantastic photos, all below the jump.

The book showcases 40 homes of AT readers including interviews, photos and resources. There's also some great commentary by Maxwell!

"After I decorated my space last year, (which I felt was my dark period) I ended up completely changing up the décor for something more casual and bright for my bungalow. For the overall look of the my bungalow I decided to call it chinoiserie meets the beach. So I added bamboo shades, linen drapes, sea grass rugs to each of the rooms. I also had the floors in the kitchen painted white gloss for a more cottage look. For each of the rooms I wanted a color palette that would flow but would also change in each room."

For the living room I chose emerald green, tan and white accented with some black. I had a pair of Asian side dressers redone in (Benjamin Moore) street light green. The green dressers come in handy since storage is always such an issue I now have more places to hide and put away things. I also had custom Lucite tables made to house all my vintage design books, and chose wallpaper green panels from Ferm Living to flank either side of the tufted sofa. I didn't want to do the entire wall (which I felt would be too busy) so when I had them installed I noticed they actually framed my black and white pictures perfectly. (My living room chairs were not in yet from the upholsterer- so they are missing from these images).

For the bedroom I decided to go with a robins egg blue (BEHR- Rhythmic Blue 510E-2) for the walls and accent with yellow, black and white. I bought a new tufted black headboard and had my side tables lacquered in white gloss. I also found my blanc de chine side lamps on Ebay.

For the kitchen, I kept my favorite Saarinen table which by the way is the perfect size for my breakfast area. I found these great café chairs and had them reupholstered in a cane pattern that I found at Lewis and Sharon. I am still have a bit of work to do with the breakfast area, the bathroom and the mudroom. I hope to hope those rooms completed soon. Enjoy!

I LOVE anything this person does. I think I have lots of Turquoise anything (her room/s, her recommendations) in my "style tray" folder on my computer. Is the book out now already? Finally I can use my barnes & noble gift card! sweeeet.

Where do the green bureaus/dressers come from?

The Asian dressers are vintage. I had them professionally lacquered in a custom green color.
