Call it a case of urban sprawl, but Apartment Therapy Los Angeles is growing and we're looking to fill in some vacancies with a couple new bloggers who can help expand our coverage into Asia, Australia and the other Southwest states. We're hoping to find one additional Los Angeles/Southwest contributor and also one from Asia and Australia each ideally [crossing fingers]. If this sounds like something that strikes your interest, check out the details below to see how you can get involved with Apartment Therapy...
Apartment Therapy Los Angeles is looking for 1-3 freelance interior design bloggers interested in writing about design, decor and everything related to the home. We're specifically looking for contributors from Australia, Asia and the Southwest regions outside of Los Angeles (San Diego, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Austin, etc). But we're happy to consider someone who calls Los Angeles their home also, most specifically Orange County, the San Fernando Valley and other outlying areas.
Responsibilities include posting daily about the design scene of their city with house tours, shop reviews, product reviews, interviews and random design notes.
This is a paid freelance part-time job (2-4 posts required a day). Contributors are paid per post; compensation will be discussed upon consideration.
You need:
• experience with blogging/writing online
• up-to-date computer
• reliable high speed connection for uploading and downloading files
• a capable digital camera (no camera phones)
• at least a basic understanding of HTML coding and/or Movable Type
• Photoshop or Photoshop Elements
• proficiency with cropping and formatting digital photos
• instant messaging application/Skype
Deadline: July 4th
Submit:
• Your name
• Where you live
• Why your city should be covered on AT
• How long you have been reading AT
• What you do full time
• 2 sample posts with great pics (good photos are very important!) that would be excellent AT posts from your city - keep it 200 words max. and blog local subjects. Please submit posts written specifically for this and not for another blog [please do not send links to previously created content]. Look to AT:Los Angeles for the general style and format of posts for submission.

i will be very interested to see coverage of Asia and Australia!

redmolly: you should contact ATSF at sf@apartmenttherapy.com just in case they're looking for new contributors. We're certainly always talking about those stylish Pacific Northwest regions :)

i am thinking asia means japan means small spaces = lots to learn and do and harness space.

Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, China, Taiwan...they're all asian countries where small space living is often practiced.

What about for Canada? We have some unique constraints, such as colder weather, different store chains, lack of some US retailers shipping to us, etc. As well as different design influences, such as British and French. For instance, Quebeckers traditionally rent a lot more than in other North American cities. Montreal and Quebec City have a great French influence, and Maritime houses are different yet again.

I agree that Canadian content would be great -- there's so much different architecture & design across this huge country!

What about Europe? When will you need contributers? ;)

So, coverage of Asia but still no one in the entire South? Miami? Atlanta? New Orleans? No?
Interesting.
view vjm's profile
Please note: each AT city site covers a specific region, so ATLA is specifically looking for cities within our current coverage which includes Asia and Australia, alongside the Southwest states.
Europe falls under ATNY and is already being covered, while Canada is being covered by ATSF and ATChi. This call out is specifically a search for bloggers to join AT Los Angeles' team, so it does not include any other regions except those listed above in the post.
vjm: in time, we'd love to cover the South (chicken or the egg first conundrum); it's been discussed often and I'd bet it will happen sooner than later.

>Asia, Australia and the other Southwest states
Um, when did those become Southwest states?

Hey! I'll do it! I don't know how to do most of that stuff, other than make oodles of posts. And I don't live in any of those areas. And I don't really like leaving the house much either.
Uh, but I was thinking...maybe you could just send me money anyway?

Thanks for thinking of the south! I'm moving to New Orleans from Virginia next month, so I look forward to expanded coverage. Lots of really amazing stuff down in NOLA. Green design, great examples of vernacular architecture, new designers and artists- what's not to love?

ohhh, how exciting! I've always wanted to blog for AT, thinking that here in Japan there are so many interesting ideas. Small living leads to great creativity. Also it is interesting how old blends with new in a lot of decoration ideas (tatami rooms, futon, etc).
Count on my application for the Asia spot ;)

Asia to most people in the west means Japan, Thailand, Hongkong etc...but please dont forget INDIA. There are many many beautiful homes and apartments here, loads of traditional wisdom regarding space and resource use...and of course colors and textures! Let me know if you would be interested in blogs from vibrant INDIA!
(...heck, I'll throw in some food posts for theKitchn.com too!)

rusholme: yes, both ATSF and ATChicago have done house tours in Canadian regions.
viola: "the other Southwest states" was in reference to their relation to Southern California/Los Angeles coverage. Because AT started off with just 4 cities, we were assigned certain global sections where the design and decor scenes were notably healthy and in tune with the site. So for example, since AT New York is closest to Europe, they often cover European house tours. While in our case, ATLA covers house tours of homes in Asia and Australia.

Hi all -
Janel from AT:Chicago here.
I'm happy to see so much interest in more AT coverage of Canada - we're looking forward to adding a blogger from Toronto in the fall.
Please stay tuned for the Toronto-specific search in September on AT:Chicago. Thanks!

Exactly what does a blogger do?

I am in Perth, Western Australia and would love to do it but I really think AT needs someone from Sydney or Melbourne to make it worthwhile. Can't wait to see the Aussie entries though!

Montreal is covered by San Francisco??? Well, I guess they're both cities near a bay...

Hmm...
I think what is needed is an AT:Canada, not coverage by AT:SF and AT:Chicago.
And there's a lot of US between AT:SF or AT:LA and AT:Chicago that isn't getting covered either.
And I hope the new AT:LA bloggers come up with more interesting articles than the current ones seem to be.
view dblitz1's profile
P.S. -- AT:Canada is at minimum.
It really needs at least two: one to cover Toronto and Montreal (and the rest of eastern Canada), and another to cover Vancouver and the rest of western Canada.

Sure, once we're able to expand out to a full-fledged Canadian team, we'd certainly consider it. But for now, this post was specifically put up looking for additional contributors to the LA team due to an actual need we have with vacancies and with hopes for regional posts originating directly from Asia and Australia, two excellent regions for design and decor inspiration. In due time, you're likely to see a similar call for Canadian bloggers on our other sites, so keep your eyes out.
dblitz, I'm disappointed to hear you're not pleased with the LA content, but it is certainly hard to please everyone so we take it all in stride (bruised egos aside). For the most part, I think the LA bloggers are doing a great job considering they're all writing about what they're passionate about with a positive voice that reflects the spirit of our own city. Perhaps, future additions to the team from different areas will provide the content and aesthetics you personally value.

@gregory:
it's the paper shampoo/dog paw washer type articles I'm griping about. You guys are passionate about that sort of stuff?

Seems like we need an AT: Team Canada site! AT:SF & AT:CHI don't spring to mind when I think Canadian design.
I say go BIG, and as big goes, Canada is BIG.

dblitz1: sure, we're passionate about many different solutions. I know Grace is interested about canine related products for the home because she has two hounds she loves (and whom she often has to clean). I was looking at easy to carry washing options because I've been planning camping trips and have used paper sheet soap before and really like them. Like I said, sometimes things we post may seem silly to one person but ends up being extremely useful information to another (sure, if I didn't have a pet, I would really be interested in pet products either)...

Also looking forward to something representative of Asia. Going to pass on the details to apply to a friend who I think could fit the bill.

I agree with topia7 - Australia's east coast would be a great addition, although melbourne has such a rich design culture and is so under-exposed. I'm sure Canada is nice - but Melbourne is awesome [and in the region your looking for].
