Mortise & Tenon's Artcoustic Systems

artcoustic-2-05-10-.jpgWe usually have little interest in anything audio . Our advice to anyone who wants a TV in the bedroom, bathroom or over the fireplace is always “don’t”, but the Artcoustic flat-screen TVs and covered speakers now being sold at Mortise & Tenon might make us change our mind. Beautiful wood frames, and cool silk-screened images hide what was once (to us) the ultimate eyesore.

This stuff aint cheap. To fit a 42” TV with a simple, but chunky wood frame costs around $1000 (TV not included). Add to that the special glass that lets the TV transform into what looks like a mirror when it’s not in use ($1500), plus the speakers with their fabric or silk-screened covers, and for about $4500, you have a truly perfect way to have your cake (cool art on your walls) and eat it, too (screw art, Oprah’s on!!).

Artcoustic is available at Mortise & Tenon.

The M&T stuf isgorgeous, but I think my pocketbook will bebetter off waiting forthe Philips Miravision line to debut in 32 and 42" screen sizes in the USA in June. They're TVs that come preframed and convert to mirrors when not in use automatically, and run about the same price as a TV of that size, or slightly higher depending on options.

Great way to hide the Plasma speakers.

So now, how would you hide the Plasma TV when you're not using it? I think I'd use something like this: plasmawindow.com
