Before & After: Emma's Bedroom Makeover

112009_emmasguest.jpgIt's no secret that we're huge fans of Emma's Design Blogg; after all, she features some amazing photos of inspiring interiors. Emma recently re-painted her bedroom with Beckers paint and what a difference it makes: Her bedroom went from drabby dirty walls with yellow trim to a pristine white paired with a light grey. Check out more photos after the jump!

Waiting for Perfect Before Inviting Guests

112009unfinished-01.jpg Getting our homes just the way we like them can take time. Sometimes we don’t always have the budget to complete all our projects at once, and other times our homes are just one, ongoing evolution of design. The question is: do you banish all visitors when your place isn't quite finished?

How Many Comforters is Enough for Autumn Chill?

111909howmanyblankets.jpgAlright, we know this query is going to vary quite a bit depending upon where you live, but we were inspired by the amusing and wonderful photo by Lukasz Wierzbowski above, motivating us to ask this very simple question: how many comforters and/or blankets do you currently sleep with on your bed in fall?

IKEA Black Friday Sneak Peek!

111909blackfriday.jpgOur friends over at IKEA were cool enough to send us this sneak peek of their selection of items that will be on discount for Black Friday, a three day sale during the holiday weekend next week. They're also throwing in a free breakfast for those of you who brave the lines (bless your sales loving souls) and we've got the complete catalog of sales items below.

Low Storage Furniture

111909low-02.jpgOur previous roommate owned a slender bookcase that extended from floor to ceiling. We ended up laying the bookcase lengthwise on the floor when we needed a T.V. stand and extra book storage in the living room. Ever since, we've really appreciated low storage furniture.

Your Furniture In Multiples

111909_multipl03.jpgWe remember watching Apartment Therapy fave, Ron Marvin's, episode of Small Space, Big Style years ago and how he had a thing for lamps and lighting. In just 300 square feet he has over ten. We also have

Win An Infinity Mirror from Room & Board!
Thursday Giveaway

Item: The Infinity 40x30 Mirror or the Infinity 36 Round Mirror.
Store: Room & Board
Value: $399 - $599

Description: Mirror, mirror on the wall, Which is the fairest of them all? We tend to be pretty indecisive, especially when given a choice between two equally stunning options, like the Infinity mirrors from Room & Board. Handcrafted in Minnesota from stainless steel and beveled-edge glass, these mirrors are modern and chic, and would certainly complement any decor. But which one to choose?

The Infinity 40x30 rectangular mirror is classic cool with a bit of a hard edge, totally capable of hanging on its own above your dresser or at the end of a long hallway with nary another accessory in sight. If mirrors could talk (in real life, Snow White, not in your harrowing tale), this mirror would tell you to toughen up, put on something fabulous, and conquer your day. However, the Infinity 36 Round Mirror will not be outdone. Softer and more lighthearted, it feels wholesome, balanced, and full of energy. Ask this mirror to say something and it'll probably chant "Om."

How To Choose a Paint Color

111909_aqua01.JPGThere are those who stand dumbstruck in front of the fields of paint swatches at the hardware store and there are others who lose sleep agonizing over the perfect paint scheme. But deciding on paint colors does not have to result in therapy if a homeowner follows a few simple suggestions.

The SLS Hotel's Tiles

111909-tiles01.jpg

Pardon the graininess; this picture was taken in very low light!

Last night we attended an event at the SLS Beverly Hills Hotel (more about that later) which took place in the Garden Terrace room. The people, the food, the displays and the cocktails are all great but at one point we found ourselves mesmerized by the tiling.

15 Uses for Honey

image_honeyhome.jpgWe don't use honey for much more than sweetening our tea. However, it's another one of those super-versatile household ingredients. We wouldn't recommend cleaning with it, but you might want to put an extra jar in your medicine cabinet.

Entertaining: And The Art of Giving Directions

111909door-05.jpgWhen I entertain, I always go the extra mile when giving directions to my home. If guests plan their route with the assistance of a web source, they will no doubt be sent over incredibly steep, 'Frisco-style hills. These gargantuan inclines often strike fear in the hearts of first-time visitors (plus they get folks lost)--this is where good directions come into play.

Tram, Train and Bus Destination Scrolls by PrintDolls
Melbourne

111909bus01.jpgTrams are a local institution of ours and we've been researching old tram scrolls but were disappointed in the price and the quality of what was on offer. Then we stumbled across PrintDolls and initially we were just excited by the quality of these hand screen-printed replica destination scrolls. Then we found they had a scroll for our neighborhood and we were thrilled!
