Mini Designer Chairs from Magic Pony

mini-chairs-04-28-MFDESIGNE.jpgThese designer chairs V.2 from Magic Pony look spectacular.

We can't kvell enough over the more high-end miniatures sold at MC shops like Jules Seltzer, but these minis are so cute and cheap, we almost want to buy a doll house to put them in (and a doll to play with, but that's another story...)

We have a call in to find out about their actual size, and whether you get the whole group for $20 as the website info is limited and a bit confusing.

If you like the miniatures (Hello Wende, Are you there?) these could be a stylish dream come true!

Oh. Oh. Oh. OH. OHHHH!!!

Any scale 1:12 or smaller, and I am sooooo buying at least some of those chairs. It is so tough to find affordable modern minis, other than a few of the Take a Seat by Raine editions ( http://tinyurl.com/r5gu4 ), the furniture from Kaleidescope House ( http://www.pmwarchitects.com/kaleido.htm and alas, much of it fits no other house), and some of the Japanese prize box items. Even $20 each is reasonable.

I've changed what my sig links to, btw, and it may amuse you, Alec.

While I'm waiting for paint to dry -- the best dollhouse for 1:12-ish modern furniture is probably the Contemporary Ranch ( http://tinyurl.com/jrgrp ). For a more aggressively West Coast Canyon look, there's the discontinued Brookwood ( http://www.madiganhouse.com/pambrookwoodhouse.htm ), which sometimes shows up on eBay. (Alas, both are too large to house in a small apartment... must bully mother into building her Brookwood this summer...)

This site on modern dollhouses had a lot of out-of-date links, last I checked, but no one else has done better.

The pieces are $20 CDN each which is pretty good. As for actual size I couldn't find anything on that.

I know they've already popped on E-bay as well.

Wende:

Do you know of a resource for small chairs that I can't spell, and if I can't spell them I can't look up the bloody spelling in the dictionary...ahhhhh...like "arindonerack" or something??? That sounds more like what happens to Donner's antlers during flight at Christmas.

I have a friend who wants maybe 10-12 for a craft project, so we aren't talking about 100.00 each either.

Also, small metal 50's outdoor patio chairs. In tiny sizes that are cheap cheap cheap. I found some for her that were votive holders. She needs them without the holes!!! Like these, no holes:

Aha, it's Adirondack. Saw that while searching.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Darn! 4" high is 1:8, which is sized for those traveling dolls that are so fashionable (or Vogue Ginny) but too big for a 1:12 house. (Barbie is 1:6, should anyone need to care.)

Andree, the best deal on something like an Adirondack chair or one of those metal chairs is going to come from a big craft store or maaaaaybe a Christmas shop. Prices tend to run much lower than at miniatures stores. The down side is that these goodies are almost never listed on the stores' Web sites but require an in-person trip. If your friend is local to us, I'd suggest D&J Hobbies in Campbell as the best bet, followed by Michael's. Nationally, I'd say Hobby Lobby, AC Moore, Michael's, Joann, in that order of likeliness. Cost Plus World Market was doing metal chairs at about 1:6 for a while (maybe $8?) but I haven't seen them there recently.

The best deal I ever got on Adirondack chairs was at a drugstore in Coronado, but unless your friend lives there, that's not practical.

Thanks Wende! Connie is in Tennessee, and she's undoubtably hit whatever local stores she has. But if you ever see such things online, holler at me in the AT-NY Open Thread.

Thanks again!

And don't confuse these with the Vitra miniature series, available at places like MoMA Store and eBay.

I am the creator of http://www.geocities.com/moderndollhouse/index.html and I just found this comment on the web. I have started a new website http://www.moderndollhousesandminiatures.com, the old one us still there, but I have made some updates .

Actually, the description on the website is wrong. Those chairs are not 4" tall - they are in fact in 1:12 scale. They're made by Reac Japan and called "Designer Interior Collection" or something like that. Although not highly available for sale in the US, they can be found on eBay quite often. I have several of them and use them in my 1:12 mini modern dollhouse.

I just bought some of these from a great local store here in Vancouver Canada for $7.50 per (%50 off). They are great! But it appears to be impossible to tell which one you're getting when you buy it as the box is closed and opaque so you cannot see which chair you're buying. (Intentionally so - apparently this adds to the mystique or collectability or some such). I bought five from Vol. 3 and was worried I was going to get the same five!

So does anyone know any fab trick re: marking on the box (which is primarily in Japanese) which might belie which mini chair is within?

Many thanks,
Laura.
