Barnacle wall storage

barnacles_wall_shelves.jpg
To be perfectly honest I initially had a difficult time determining how I felt about these Barnacle wall mounted storage vessels. On one hand, I immediately imagined the grand effect of using these en masse, placed upon a large column or wall mimicking their natural inspiration, creating a storage solution that would both look like an art installation while providing utilitarian use. Poseiden would be proud!

But it's also their geometrically-modern form which would make these a tough fit for anyone who did not live in a "machine for living" interior, or at least one of the less traditional variety. Still, sometimes you can admire something simply for what it is without necessarily wanting it for yourself, and these certainly fall under that category. So I guess I like them.

$219 for a set of 3.

They kind of make me think modern day geometric dioramas. Maybe a series of them sprinkled horizontally across a big wall with some small succulents tucked into each one. That would look cool.

I could think of a million ways to use these if only they weren't a million bucks...

Now, how can I replicate them...hmm

$219 for a set of 3. They're fiberglass.

I'm in the wrong business.

I really like the look of many of them scattered on a wall as an art statement, however, with things stuffed in them I think they look like another method of clutter. So - if you look at them as art - $219 X 6 isn't a bad investment. But as storage, personally, I think they'd be a bit much, even 3 of them.

If you have curious cats, I guarantee they'll be off the wall in a heartbeat.

As sculpture or wall decor, cool. But to actually use them for storage, not so much. You lose the beauty of the design once they're actually used for storage. At any rate, I can think of better ways to spend $219.

This may sound odd, but I have a thing for barnacles... I have some 1.5 million year old barnacles in my computer case for instance. So I showed my husband these when I saw them and he just looked at me funny and said "Great baby, just what you need."

I agree that they look better used as art rather than storage though. Unless you replaced your medicine cabinet with a small grouping of them and a mirror, but you'd have to keep all you're stuff super neat and we know the only good thing about a medicine cabinet is that it hides all your hideous junk like half-used tubes of toothpaste and deodorant bars.
