I poop like a pigeon...I don't even have time to read the title. It's just a fly by.
Even if I wasn't a champion turbo-pooper, there is no way that I'd even pick up a book or magazine in a bathroom. I'd be too distracted by thoughts of other people poopin' n' readin' the same book with their germ-laden poop mittens.

The loftier the subject, the more it should belong in the bathroom. I like the irreverence of this practice - having them on your coffee table just seems a little too pretentious.
I only read in the bathroom when I'm in the middle of something important/interesting/thought-provoking. And the only reason I take a bathroom break in the middle of reading is because I've been holding it for hours. I try not to do that much though because I always end up in the bathroom for 30 minutes, when I was technically done using the bathroom 29 minutes ago.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I've never understood why it would take so long to do your business that you would need to entertain yourself with a book. Who wants to touch the book when you're done anyway.

Not, "Gross! No!" Just, "No." I really dislike bathrooms no matter how well appointed, and don't care to be there, for any reason, a moment longer than necessary.

If you really need magazines to pass the time in there, or worse - a book, then I think you should be taking fibre supplements. Metamucil is your friend!
i've got a bunch of magazines and catalogs in the bathroom. but i only read in *my* bathroom, where it's clean and if it's not, then i'm well aware of how, um, unclean it is. UNCLEAN! dark arts! i don't bring a book to the bathroom at macy's when i've gotta go whilst shopping ahaha.
ok, and i also will bring my book in there, if i cannot fathom reading something other than my current book-of-choice.

As a side note, I have found that if you always read on the throne, you'll always have to go the moment you set foot in a bookstore. Never fails....

One talk with my dad about his prolapsed rectum (google it- I dare ya!) was all I needed to know that you should NEVER read in the bathroom. Eat fiber, do your business, and get out!

*the key is to only touch the magazine/book before wiping and after you wash your hands.
I used to if it was a really good book, but now I don't have the time (three boys 4, 2, & 2mon.).

I'm not in the bathroom long enough to read. Besides, I'd rather read sitting on the couch or laying in bed.
i'm not big on the bathroom reading, but i don't get why it's *that* gross. all sorts of things go in and out of the bathroom. you, your clothes, pets, towels, hairbrushes, makeup...? what's the big deal? (well, other than the fact that you should be able to get in and out of there quickly! agree with that!)
yeah, I'm not in the bathroom long enough to read, just a couple of minutes at the most. How long a time are we talking about here?

but see, that's the thing - we're not talking about reading an ENTIRE magazine in one sitting. i haven't timed it or anything, but what, 5 or 10 minutes?

If I'm going to read, I'm really going to dig in and read for an hour. so no- no bathroom reading.
Music, on the other hand, really should be on as frequently as possible. So whatever the purpose for my stay, when in the bathroom, the radio is on.

Seriously, I think this is a guy thing. I've never known a chica who confused the toilet with the library - though definitely the tub is a major reading spot for me.

Why is this gross? - you read the book while you're "going" - your hands are clean - you put the book down, wipe, and leave
In what way would the book get dirtier than it would in any other room?
I always have books, magazines and puzzle books in the bathroom - they get used when I'm on the loo and when I'm in the bath - and also when I'm in there while my husband is taking a bath and we're just hanging out together
