Kleenex Expressions Oval Collection

101606kleenex1.jpgFlipping through the latest Dwell, I spotted an ad for the new "Expressions Oval Collection" from Kleenex. I've always felt that tissue boxes are somewhat of a "necessary evil" in terms of modern decor. You know you need them, but the box designs rarely match or even coordinate. Kleenex, the tissue industry leader, have launched a new collection, taking steps to bring more trend driven designs to the boxes. In this collection, the traditional box shape has been modified into a more contemporary oval design. A new website has also been launched, OurNewOval.com.

Personally, some of these "new" designs already feel a little dated. However, for such a mass market product, I am excited that these options are available. I also really like the oval shape. I think out of the new designs, I could definitely see Sunlight, Hawaiian, or Black & Tan as favorites. What do you guys think?

The one thing I've noticed with these is that you can't get a tissue out of them one-handed. They're too light, so you end up picking up the whole box. You have to use your other hand to hold the box down. It's actually quite annoying and will keep me from buying it again.

I actually emailed Kleenex a couple years ago complaining about the exterior designs. They essentially patted me on the head and told me to go away.

I wanted them to do designer patterns a-la-angela adams or something. It's a so ridiculously simple thing to do. I end up buying Target brand because the boxes are at least presentable.

It's really a "duh" thing on Kleenex's part-- get on the bandwagon folks! The designs above are better but STILL missing the boat.

Not nice enough.

I have gone to transferring tissues in to glue perspex tissue boxes from Muji. They look soooo good.

I've bought a couple of these boxes, and I think they look nice. However, as someone who has allergies and goes through a lot of tissues, they aren't very economical. I'm still searching for the perfect, larger box to keep my tissues in.

Kimberly-Clark, makers of Kleenex, are the absolute worst offenders when it comes to clear-cutting forests. I refuse to buy their products after reading about them in a National Resources Defence Council (NRDC) newsletter. I thought this was common knowledge and am a bit surprised to see this as an AT post, particularly from LA where things are a little more progressive, Jonathan. ;) But you're right: the designs are better than most, though I probably still wouldn't buy them based on Dorie's comment.

abbe,
what kind of tissues do you buy or use? i was totally unaware of kimberly-clark's practices. if it's feasible, i'd buy from someone else. i just worry that you'll say you only use handkerchiefs, which when you're someone with the amount of allergy problems i have, is really, really impractical.

Erin ~
I buy Seventh Generation when I find a good deal on them, usually in bulk packages. But otherwise Target's seem to be about the best I can find with the least offensive packaging. (We've moved a lot, so I keep adjusting, based on the market.) I hate the 'lotiony' Puffs types. My husband has allergies, too, and with the congestion stuff that has ravaged our house in the past month with two little ones newly in school, I can't imagine handkerchiefs! We drive a Prius, but we aren't quite that 'green.' :) OK, entirely too much information about tissues here...
