Roundup: Black Bathrooms

020509_bb00.jpgFeeling a bit moody? We've compiled our list of moody bathrooms done in a daring black to set the tone. Black bathrooms are tricky to pull off: too much gloss and it can look like the set of an 80's Kylie Minogue music video; too little pizzazz and the bathroom looks like a work-in-progress. Take a look at some of our favorite black bathrooms after the jump...

This top dollar bathroom features beautiful ebony floors with a matte charcoal-grey wall. Love the elegant clawfoot tub and the silver candelabra and light fixture adds just a touch of fantasy. From House to Home UK.

looks all cool and modern, but i doubt i would want to have this in my bathroom. the lighting in there would be terrible for putting my makeup on in the morning.

i love black bathrooms! its so elegant. i noticed that the clawfoot tub is common in the photos featured here, but even a standard tub looks great surrounded in black!

black walls require little to no "extras". it keeps everything minimal and rich all at the same time.

I have been planning a black bathroom redo this weekend. I am so excited to put it all together and thank you so much to AT for posting this. It is reassuring to see well-done black.

I love a black master bath- equal parts luxury and naughtiness. There's something so personal and private about the all-over black. It's like sticking out your tongue at the oh-so-typical clean and white subway tile and making every shower a retreat instead of a necessity.

I wouldn't paint a powder room or guest bath black though... a little intimidating for a guest, eh?

That last bathroom with the fireplace, the plasma, the Boontje, the chandelier, and the clawfoot is just fabulous. But OK, where's the towel rack (and the kitchen sink)?

I don't have the resolve to start a domestic revolt by painting the bathroom black, but I admire the look.

Who on earth is Kylie Minogue?

I love it.

My issue comes with a) the tv in the bathroom. I'm constantly amazed by how much people need their tv. and b) the electric fixture hanging over the tub. Surely that's against code, not to mention a safety hazard?

"Surely that's against code, not to mention a safety hazard?"

It's no more a hazardous than a blowdryer in the bathroom - and a Television mounted on the wall isn't nearly as easy to toss into the tub when the spouse is taking a bath...

The last (first) one just looks like someone ran out of energy on the way to bring the tub to the bathroom, so they left it in the living room while they catch their breath and grab a drink. they'll be back in a minute to bring it upstairs to the bathroom.

I love black walls.

I guess it depends on the area, but as far as I understand an electric fixture above the bath is most certainly against code in Ontario.

My friends grandparents had a bathroom that was called the Elvis Bathroom. It had black velvet flocked wallpaper with gold foil background, black toilet, black pedestal sink, gold fixtures and shiny black granite with gold flecks for the floor.
It, along with the entire house, looked like something out of 'Goodfellas' and was quite the conversation starter.

Definitely not the chic bathrooms shown in the pictures! Although I'm sure at one time the Elvis bathroom had been considered chic.

Glad you're back bepsf, I missed these kinds of chuckles. No wonder spouse won't let me put a TV over the tub. ;-D

A bathroom with a television and a fireplace? Does it double as a living room? Or do those people just take REALLY long baths?

I see that all the time here in AZ on house tours - tvs and fireplaces are common. Often these huge rooms are used as workout/get-away-from-the-kids rooms too, so I get the TV. But a fireplace... other than the obvious romantic nod, I always wondered if there was at all a practical side to it, as in heating up all that cold tile.
