Simply Vera Wang Poppy Comforter Set

021908verawang3.jpgLast fall, Vera Wang entered the mass market world with her Simply Vera Wang collection exclusively at Kohls. (AT:NY blogged the first collection here.) The other day, we stopped by to see what was new for spring, and were pleasantly surprised to see this Poppy comforter set. We've been seeing a lot of yellow lately, and we're liking the slightly 70's retro vibe of the large tonal floral graphic...

021908verawang2.jpgWe love how they've paired it with lots of white, and we even like the pop orange "boudoir" pillow. However, the other larger embroidered red/yellow accent pillow... not so much. We're thinking maybe throwing in a nice light grey or tan pillow or even mixing in a darker blue could look nice too. The comforter set includes comforter, bedskirt and two pillow shams. A queen set is regular priced at $359.99 (although now on sale for $249.99) How are you guys feeling about yellow for the bedroom? Is it too much? or does it feel fresh? Does anyone have yellow currently in their bedroom?

Am I the only one who doesn't like the idea of comforters, as opposed to duvets? Somehow I just don't imagine that a comforter would stand up to a weekly washing as would a duvet cover - which is an absolute necessity since I have dogs who enjoy sleeping on my bed much more than they enjoy sleeping in theirs.

Or are these supposed to be purely decorative and not to be slept in? At the risk of inviting criticism, maybe that's a stupid question...

I recently ordered the Pottery Barn songbird duvet cover set in Marigold (see it here: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p10022/index.cfm?cm%5Flid=1&pgid=p10275&cm%5Fsrc=rel) and am head over heels. I love the cheerfulness of the yellow and how clean it looks with the white in contrast, as well as my bright blue accents. I'm also using a little bit of green around the room in paintings and live plants. I think you can make it very modern when you don't pair it with brown and orange!

SRW -- I agree with you; duvet covers are much easier to care for.

For most of my adult life I have painted my bedroom a soft butter yellow. For the first time it's now a neutral oatmeal, but I still have golden yellow tones in my duvet.

Tip: Be very careful -- what looks like soft baby chick yellow on the paint chip can turn out to be vibratingly intense on the walls. Butter yellow feels like morning to me. It makes me happy and makes me feel good the way it warms up in morning sunlight. That, and pretty much any color you can think of looks great with it.

SRW, I agree with you. Duvets are much easier. Comforters don't hold up as well with washings and can rip in traditional top load washers.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a summer duvet insert? I love the weight of my down comforter but it's too hot in the summer.

Thanks!

what about a thin quilt? i just ordered two from target (clearance). west elm offers them - those uneven stitch ones are very light, and urbanoutfitters has some that are very light (for much better prices). they feel wonderful: soft, light and fluffy. It's hard to tell by a picture. handle some in stores.

After switching to a duvet after years of comforters, I'm never going back. My roommate and I saw this set at Kohl's last night. It was ok but I'm not a huge fan of yellow.

LadyJ - I have a white uneven stitch quilt from West Elm for summer but it doesn't hold up well in the wash and it's not heavy enough. (not warmth but weight) I like the weight on me from a down comforter and would like the ease of washing a duvet but want a summer appropriate insert for it.
