West Elm: Inside Scoop

Do you ever feel like sometimes you just so happened to be at the right place and the right time...

Well that's how I felt yesterday when I went to West Elm.

I was there to return some items, when I ran into a client at the check out and started talking about Apartment Therapy. The manager over heard us talking and asked if we would like to take a sneak peak at the new catalogue before it goes to print. The both of us looked at each other and said oh yes!

Remember those fancy mirrored side tables they had last year, well those puppies are coming back. They will be featuring a whole new line of leather-upholstered furniture including a bed, desk and coffee table (featured above).

They have also designed a new modern chaise/daybed that comes with two bolster pillows. New rugs and pillows that feature animal and geometric patterns. A wood wall clock, Danish inspired side tables, 1960's Moroccan style rugs, octagon shaped shelf units, new drapes - plus a hole bunch of other stuff you just can't wait to get your hands on.

The Santa Monica store has already started displaying some of the items and the entire new line should all be in by July 21st. The manager also said that the store will have the pieces in before you view it on line or in the catalogue.

Sometimes its nice to have the inside scoop before anyone else does!

When I got the new catalog I thought about the four poster metal bed as well. But I've heard that their beds are not that good and I wonder just how stable that bed really is. I'll have to go to a store and check it out.

I'm so all over that modern chaise/daybed. I have to check that out - may be exactly what I'm looking for.

THANK YOU MISS V!!!

Anybody familiar with the quality of West Elm metal beds?

I'm debating whether I'll buy the bed pictured above in a full or a queen. It will cost me $400 to $450 less than the same style bed at Room and Board.

after 6 months of use our full, wooden, west elm bed developed horrible squeaks. we took the mattress off and found that all the bolts were plenty tight, and so i'm in the market for a much much more expensive bed.

if all you want to do is sleep on it, however, i'm sure it works fine.

re: Hb/aka Squeaky

You might want to try graphite or talcum powder both are quick fixes for wood floor squeaks.

re: Hb/aka Squeaky

You might want to try graphite or talcum powder both are quick fixes for wood floor squeaks. That will lubricate the pieces that are rubbing against each other. Otherwise, you can take it apart and reassemble it, gluing and bolting the pieces together.

the problems with West Elm beds are legendary. I think if you do a Google search you will find lots of complaints. I love thier accessories and bedding and some such and I have one of thier end tables but have heard many complaints about the quality and durability of thier furniture pieces. proceed with caution.

I view West Elm and IKEA furniture in the same way. Both have nice accessories and textiles but I steer clear of their furniture.

Rob, I love that bed but I'm thinking of the Room and Board version (the metal one, not the chrome finish one.) I do trust them more when it comes to furniture.

That is such a great bed.
