It figures that it's from Europe - seems that the major American furniture manufacturers think we all live in McMansions.

Looking at the way the foot of the bed is suspended by fabric webbing, I'm thinking that this wouldn't be too difficult to create from a platform bed and a roller-awning mechanism...

I love this... although knowing me, I would probably never raise this back up into the ceiling.

Good idea, but I'd be really paranoid that it'd get stuck and not come down, or it'd not go back up. Or worse yet, it goes back up with ME in it! *shudder*

It seems to me that, with some really strong rope and some pulleys, this can be accomplished by a DIY guy. After all, it's not supporting a person. It's just a piece of plywood and a mattress. It doesn't have to be very stable when it's near the ceiling, and, if you're willing to sleep with the mattress on the floor, the concept should be pretty simple to replicate. (And think about what a cool mural you could paint on the plywood.)

Either that will eventually drop and smash the beloved family pet, or one night while laying on it you'll be quickly transported upwards and through the ceiling into the neighbor's apartment. :)

Hey perhaps they should make these things a design option? A good way to get rid of that one night stand who won't leave the next morning? At the touch of a button beneath your nightstand (just be sure you are not IN the bed), you whisk one-night-Ned into space.
