ODDA guest bed with storage at IKEA

022708odda1.jpgThe other day, Laure's post about what to do if you don't have a guest room, brought out a bunch of great ideas. Here's another one we saw recently at IKEA. The ODDA guest bed is sort of a modified pull-out couch. But instead of pulling out the couch, you actually flip it open...

022708ODDA_2.jpgIn it's closed position, thow on some pillows and it acts as convenient extra seating. And then flip it open to be a small bed. There's even pull out storage underneath. 022708ODDA_3.jpg022708ODDA_4.jpgWe're not exactly loving the black and white color option, but that could easily be reupholstered with a different fabric. Does anyone have this piece in their home? More specs here.

Do you guys have any other recommendations on convertible type furniture pieces?

I haven't seen this actual item, but I love the idea. IMO, it's a great alternative to a daybed for an office that doubles as a guest room. I'll have to check it out the next time that I'm at Ikea.

I love the idea too! I've seen something similar, but as an ottoman that flipped open to reveal a twin bed pullout, similar to a sleeper sofa, inside. There's lots of versions of it if you search "ottoman guest bed" and I find this one not so offensive...

I love this! It would be great in the corner of a room with some big throw pillows on it. Perhaps a good place to sit and read :)

Huh, that's an interesting piece. Not sure it's be so great to sleep on, but it looks like it'd make for some extra seating when entertaining.

It's cool as a bench, ugly as a chair.

renee:

The ottoman/bed you found looks good overall, but it's a bit misleading. They call it an "ottoman/twin guest bed", but the actual bed is only 27" x 73", MUCH smaller than an actual twin bed.

We've had the LYCKSELE chair bed from Ikea for a year now and it is still pretty sturdy, having been slept on by various friends/family. Think the current chair cover offerings by Ikea aren't that attractive but we got it with the red chair cover (for $5!) which is pretty cute! It's currently unfolded in our living room as a daybed/extra seating cos the parentals are visiting. For $150, I would say it's a pretty good addition to the living room furniture!

hmmm it would be great under the window as a window seat . . . definitely reupholstered, though.

Great idea. I love all of these solutions. Available to accommodate the true emergency overnight guest, but not so comfortable that they want to stay a second night.
