Flipping the Mattress

FullImage_2005839155_646.jpg
Since getting our new mattress, we've been flipping (actually rotating 180 degrees, since it's a no-flip mattress) the bed every other month. Yeah, a little extreme, but we're freaked out about making the pricey investment last.

Linda Cobb, "The Queen of Clean", recommends flipping on a seasonal schedule: side-to-side in spring and fall, and end-over-end in summer and winter. We found this illustration showing proper rotating and turning technique. The illustration seems to be missing instruction of how to manage while two crazy cats run ontop, over and under the mattress while you're trying to extend the life of your mattress, as we often have to manage, but it's a great visual reference nonetheless. How often do you flip/rotate your mattress in your bedroom?

call me crazier but I change flip mine every other week!! If I waited any longer I'd forget. I understand clearly about the cats, I have two and not only do I have to work with them when flipping the mattress I also have to work with them every Saturday when I change my sheets. sometimes I just make em into it:)

Oh, yes, my cats love to help change the sheets. They get those big round crazy eyes and their tails puff out. My mattress is a pillow top which can only be flipped end-to-end, not upside-down. I do it every now and then.

Wow, that really makes it look so simple...clearly I was making it very hard for myself. I can't tell you how many times I almost snapped my neck while flipping-- my arms buckling under the pressure of that giant mattress

ha!
just have to add that i love to read about everyone else having the same problem with their cats "helping" change sheets and flipping mattresses! we have 4 - it's like they become a gang of crazed felines when they hear the rustling of sheets!

Am I the only person who has never flipped their mattress? Scarily enough, I have had the same mattress ever since I left college seventeen years ago - and it wasn't new when I got it, it had belonged to my brother in law for at least 4-5 years!

The only time it may have gotten flipped is during moves, but it has been on a wooden platform bed without a boxspring the whole time so maybe that helps. I do use a featherbed with it and have slept like a log all those many years, and when guests have occasionally slept on it I have received no complaints - even from my parents, who definitely would not be too polite to tell me ;-).
