How many times have you found yourself with the candles warmly lit, Al Green on rotation and snuggling up with that someone special in bed, only to find an important limb or two fallen asleep under the weight of your partner? We love cuddling up, but the muscles, blood vessels and nerves in our arms often pay a painful price for a few minutes in heavenly embrace. Cue in Mehdi Mojtabavi's Love Mattress, a 2007 red dot award design concept winner.

Hmm. I hate to be a party pooper, but how do you clean that?

Taureg my very first thought was "Well, so much for the Frette's we just spent $500 on"

This is brilliant. Can't say how many times hubby and I have joked that we wished we had a detachable arm because he crushes my arm around him or his arm around me juts up into my ribcage or hurts my neck (dude's got big arms, what can I say).

What if you're a stomach-sleeper?? Owwww....

i sleep on my stomach on top of my arms.... I wake up every morning with numb hands. It would be cool to be able to sleep with my arms crossed not have them fall asleep.

I could also see small animals getting trapped in there.
Hmm, I wonder what happened to fluffy?

I'm not sure about how the sheet situation would work, but I think this is a good idea.

Great idea... this might be good even if you sleep alone. I woke up with a dead/numb arm one time after a very strange night (don't ask and I won't tell). Let's just say I couldn't even comprehend what end of my bed I was sleeping on.

This makes me smile (even though I can't figure out if it could ever be practical or not). I've been both victim and perpetrator of more than a few crushed arms and I really admire people who can see a problem as a creative opportunity.
Regarding sheets - the mattress looks relatively thin, so if you bought deep-pocket sheets, there would probably be enough slack to push down into the gaps (sloppy looking, but I think it would work).

I like the idea a lot. I'm just curious as to how much it will cost.

How funny! My husband had just sent me this comic strip on the same topic... http://xkcd.com/335/

The woman in the ad has a wonderful behind. I'm sure it doesn't hurt sales.

oh my god. i've been wanting to design one of these forever! (Needless to say, this design is superior to anything I've come up with.) I so want one!
