In the bedroom, it makes perfect sense that each side of the bed has a bedside table and lamp. Adding the decor becomes easy and effortless because you're building upon the rule of symmetry. And while your objects don't have to be identical we do like the simplicity of duplicates in the bedroom. We find that when there's balance in the bedroom, our lives run a smoother course (and it doesn't hurt to enhance your feng shui).

Interesting. It looks nice, but I find too much symmetry boring. The symmetry of the bed is enough for me. I like an asymmetrical balance.

yes, too much order is unsettling to me. I also can't stand it when the pillows don't touch.

Why does it make perfect sense that each side of the bed has a table and a lamp?
It makes predictable sense perhaps and a pretty high percentage of designs place matching tables and lamps flanking beds, but I don't know that it is in any way necessary.
Depends on how you live, how you use the bedroom, and how many people will be involved in doing so.
It might make perfect sense to put an end table and lamp flanking a couch, but lots of folks choose not to do so. The BR doesn't have to be any different.

I'm finding lately that I don't want so much symmetry and I'm planning to break this up in the bedroom. It's looking too sterile.

I have broken the symmetry in my bedroom and it has open up more possibilities and has allowed me to reuse what I have in new ways while rethinking color, etc.
My bedroom now looks more like a salon, living space then a typical bedrm.

I love the painting in #2. The books look a little odd, though

Anyone know the color/brand of paint in the first photo, or anything similar? I want it in my kitchen.

..."the bed is already divided evenly..." What does that even mean?
Seems like there are a lot of possibly false assumptions at work here...

I love the lamp in the first photo - I keep seeing it pop up in people's homes. Who makes it?
