Some of the most fun we've had outfitting our place have been regular cruises through discount retailers Ross and TJ Maxx, just to see. Since we don't don't go in with an agenda we can really keep an open mind and hunt through the store just looking. We've had some great finds in bedding, taking risks on high quality linens from Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren that are in patterns or palettes that wouldn't have been our first instinct. And since there's rarely a whole set that matches, the low (really low!) prices make getting creative with mixing and matching patterns a lot of fun.

I got my 800 threadcount Nautica sheet set at TJ Maxx, and paid less then $50. In fact everything on my bed comes from a discount store and they are all Nautica andRalph Lauren.
My towels are also all Ralph Lauren and from Marshall's (which is what we have on the east coast instead of your Ross)

I find the cutest furniture at Ross sometimes! I usually just repaint it and then replace the hardware with something more my style. Some pieces are a little damaged, but most are easily fixed.
Also a great place to find shower curtains, unique lamp shades and TONS of baskets!

I've gotten beautiful bedding and decorative accessories at Marshall's! My favorites are a bedspread and wine glasses I use as candle holders. I often find towels I like but never enough for a full 'set' so I haven't bought any yet. They always have unique photo frames and desk accessories, too.

Hmm, I must have lucked out dosergirl, I'm on the east coast and have both Ross and Marshalls...and TJMaxx!

TJ Maxx is a goldmine for discounted Hotel Collection sheets. We're talking $300 duvets for less than $50

enamorada, you totally lucked out. i would be thrilled if we had a Ross, i used to live in Los Angeles so i am familiar. That being said we do have TJ Maxx and Marshalls so i can't complain too much.
also Filene's Basement is another great home store, although i miss the original store in Boston

similarly there is a store called Tuesday Morning (i know there are locations in TX, not sure where else). good place to get bath and bedding at a cheap price! especially if you are okay with mixing and matching. usually have higher end brands as well. happy matching!

I've gotten all of my bedding and towels at Ross, Marshalls and TJ Maxx -- Ralph Lauren, Hotel Collection, Nautica and Wamsutta. I've never spent more than $30 on any one item, including complete sheet sets. Always look for the clearance aisle or at the ends of aisles for the items with red and yellow tags. You can get discontinued towels for $1 or $2. I got my sister a closeout sheet set for $12.

I adore places like these. It makes me think twice about paying full price! That and my income. ;)

@ccc1979 we have Tuesday Morning stores here in CA too. I have yet to buy anything there but I do like to browse.

I got a great upholstered chair from TJ Maxx, for which I always receive compliments. I also love Home Goods for accessories and kitchen gadgets.

Believe it not I have had fantastic luck with Ikea. I love their crisp, colorful, modern designs. I pair them with solid sheets from The Company Store in different colors and have fun mixing and matching week to week.
Overstock.com I haven't used but have trolled around and they have good stuff. Smart Bargains I used a few times and it was OK but the sheets wrinkled terribly so I've crossed them off my list.
I also have gotten great bedding off Ebay of all places. Mega discounts off big name brands. (I got a beautiful, first quality Ralph Lauren duvet cover for $80).
Garnet Hill I also use sometimes and their stuff is great. Probably my favorite. My most favorite of all time sheets came from there, unfortunately (predictably?) they stopped making them.

I found this giant, porcelain queen chess piece at Ross. It sits on my desk and peeks out from behind my computer, it is one of my favorite things in my house. I think it was $8. There is a Ross around the corner from my apartment, I go in there about once every two weeks to see what new they have because inventory moves fast there.

This is great to know. A Marshall's just recently opened in DC in Columbia Heights and I've never thought to go in there. Now I will.

Ross is my favorite home goods guilty pleasure. I always find great storage pieces to sneak into my book shelf and desk areas.

I like storage boxes and container-type things from Ross, Marchalls and TJ Max. I have also gotten, and this is more embarassing that just buying sheets, gourmet foods. These stores have an aisle of gourmet organic olive oils, flavored imported vinegars, fancy jams, olives and more. I stock up with there is good stuff to use as gifts. Oh! And there are tons of fabulous throw pillows. I love discount stores!

We have a Marshall's, two Ross, and a TJMaxx near me in Richmond, VA. I go once a month or so when I have free time. I've gotten hangers, accessories, kitchen items, towels... Sometimes I'll come away completely empty handed, other times I find lots of good deals. Right place right time.

Marshalls and TJMaxx are my main sources for bedding and towels. I have my ups and downs with Ross. I like the store, but I often find myself digging through piles and piles of uninteresting things to find what I like. I actually like finding storage/organizing items at Ross more than anything else.

I'm always glad when stores sell sheets separately. I HATE boxed sets. Bottom sheets wear out faster, so you always need more of those than top sheets. And I collect vintage pillowcases, so I don't like having to pay for two new ones I don't need.

Most of my bedding is from Overstock.com. They have a lot of great stuff.

Home Goods. Part of the Marshalls and TJ Maxx conglomorate. Between the three, and occasionally the Christmas Tree Shop (often lower quality) I get most of my housewares and linens. And a fair amount of specialty furniture, like the cabinets we got for towels in the bathrooms.

What might be possibly embarrassing about shopping in a place like that???
I love the Marshall's that's close to me. Recently I bought 600TC queen sheet set from HOTEL on sale for $39... and more blankets, kitchen accessories, home decor accents (not many, as the style is not really mine) and so on and so on... LOVE IT! :D

Looks like a small Afghan "Bokhara" rug next to the bed. Some newer versions may be found at a very modest investment range.
