We've kept this image from Danny Seo's blog in our archives for a long time just waiting for the right moment to use this bit of inspiration. We love that Danny was able to transform a dorm room into something warm, fun and graphic with just one material, very little money and a little bit of time:
The big secret in this room is the use of large construction paper to create the grid on the back wall. Not only does it make the room a lot more interesting but it's easier than painting and there's no mess to clean up. Construction paper fades over time, but in a dorm room you don't have to worry about longevity. And since the investment is minimal you can take the risk and use a couple of hours on a weekend to transform an otherwise dull space.
Of course nice bedding, a picked up space and some plants are a nice bonus, but start with the walls.

Love the colours. Big impact for such a low cost--sweet. I'd ditch the blinds, try some other window treatment perhaps?

This isn't what I would have done with the space, but it's very visually appealing and I love that he's made the effort. I always wondered how people could live in regular undecorated dorm rooms - so depressing. Especially if you only have one room, it's so important that it be livable and have a little bit of style! I love that this person spent the time to do this - and that it cost so little. This should definitely be an inspiration to those who are currently living in dorms or who have a hard time seeing how they can update a space without a lot of money.

There's nothing less inspiring than a boring 'prison cell' like dorm room so I applaud anyone who wants to bring a little color or imagination in! :)

I love cheap dorm room fixes! When I was in school, I got chinese lanterns of different colors and hung them from the pipes. It gave it a colorful solar system look. Then I blue-tacked coins from around the world on my wall in a cool shape, which was both interesting graphically and fun souvenir-wise.
