Our general philosophy on TV in the bedroom is no. We confine ours to the living room, reserving the bedroom as a sanctuary for relaxing, resting and, umm...recreation, a place where we can figuratively, if not literally, close the door against distractions from the outside world...
But we would've loved to have one in our bedroom this morning, where we could've watched the festivities while enjoying our coffee from the warm coziness confines of our bed. We have friends who enjoy having a tv in their bedroom. They like snuggling into bed to watch movies or their favorite programs; the white noise of the television helps them fall asleep; they like beginning their day with television news; it's a great option when you're sick. If they share a home with someone, having a second television in the bedroom can diffuse the conflict over what programs to watch; watching erotica together can add spice to your sex life.
If you decide to have a television in the bedroom, especially if you share a space with someone, consider these guidelines:
- Put the tv on a timer so that it shuts off automatically. Consider headphones if you share your bedroom and the noise distracts your significant other.
- Don't watch violent or scary movies before trying to go to sleep.
- Place the television in cabinet so you can hide the TV when it's not in use or, if your bedroom's big enough, consider a sofa or chairs from which to watch.
Do you have a television in your bedroom?

I have a tv in my bedroom that I use it to watch the news in the morning while I get ready for work. I would like to find a way to hide it, though, without purchasing a big cabinet for it to sit in. Any ideas?

i would never have a tv in the bedroom but that's mainly because i don't really like television much. actually i have sort of an animosity towards it, but that's a different story!
for white noise i use a fan and if i want entertainment i bring my laptop to bed and watch youtube!

I love a TV in my bedroom. I almost have to have something on to fall asleep. I put it on a sleep timer, of course :)

I watch too much TV as it is. The last thing I need is another one in my bedroom.

My husband says no tv in the bedroom but I have a laptop that I can watch in bed- HA!

I like watching the news/weather in the morning and snuggling in bed to watch movies. However, most day and prime time watching is done in the living room. I also like having a TV in the bedroom as another option if I dont want to watch the same as my roommates or if they're using the common areas for entertainment.
I would also like ideas to hide/cover it though that don't require a separate storage piece as my TV also serves as my monitor.

Its bad enough that I bring the laptop into the bedroom - I don't need a TV as well, or I might never visit the rest of the apartment!

have never had a TV in the bedroom. see no reason to. bedrooms are for two things; watching the news ain't one of them.

I don't really have a living room and I like night tv. It doesn't interfere with my ability to rest.

Nope. We only have one and it doesn't even get reception. It's for dvd and nintendo use. I watch most tv online.
I admit, though, that when in a hotel I make it a point to spend a few hours lounging on the oversized bed watching Law and Order or something cheesy on HBO.

I don't really like TV in the bedroom, but if I owned a home I would absolutely get one of those TV-in-mirror devices in the bathroom. I would love to have the news on while I'm getting ready for work. Plus, the constant time updates on the news would keep me from dawdling ;)

I love not having a tv in the living room - it makes the space conversation oriented! We finally broke down and got a tv recently though, but weren't about to ruin the feel of the living room. So bedroom it is. I love being under the covers to watch movies. Since we were already used to being without it, we don't overwatch in the bedroom. When spring comes we'll probably get rid of it again in favor of the outdoors.

I'm shout a resounding NO to TV in the br, but my FH is very pro-br-TV. Luckily, the new TV found a home in front of the couch, so my sanctuary is safe.

My little 13 inch tv will be moved to the bedroom as soon as I can upgrade to a larger tv in the living room (though I could live without a bedroom tv if there was a hook-up for the tv in the kitchen, as having background noise on while cooking is great). Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding a tv cabinet that fits the style of furniture in my room (dark wood mid century with bold color accents) that doesn't completely dwarf the tv. :/
The bedroom is a place for rest, but I also do a lot of projects on the floor in the bedroom, so the ability to watch something while I've got everything spread out on the floor is really nice.

I don't have a TV in my bedroom. I used to when I was a teenager, but it certainly didn't have cable - it was an old set that I used to play video games on.
I do, however, have a laptop, though I make an effort not to use it in bed, from time to time, especially if I'm sick, I'll bring it in and watch a couple of DVDs.

after living in a studio where having a tv in my living room was having one in my bedroom, I appreciate not having a tv in the bedroom. it feels peaceful and encourages me to read before bed. I do, however, frequently watch movies on my laptop in bed. I think since movies have a definite end, as opposed to channel surfing, it's not an issue.

I have my 13 YO 20" TV in the bedroom but it sits on an inexpensive black TV cart I bought at Target 5 years ago to put it on when I was given an old 27" TV for the living room area.
That old 27" set has been replaced with a 32" LCD HDTV and the old TV still resides in the bedroom where I watch the occasional TV program while at the desk or some cartoons on DVD before turning out the light and even there it stays off most of the time.
If I had cable, I'd be watching way too much TV as is w/ HGTV being my fix, but now w/ digital set top boxes and the new TV, I can watch Create and have much the same fix. :-}
Even with all that, I don't spend more than an hour or so most nights w/ either set on.

I am ashamed to admit that our house is extremely full of technology, one tv in the living room, one in the bedroom, one in the bathroom, one over the treadmill and a movie screen in the "man room". I would fight my husband to get the TV out of the bedroom, but I have gotten really used to going to sleep to the Jeopardy theme song, so it would be a tough adjustment to go to sleep in silence.

no way. there's enough 'noise pollution' in my life already.

Yes, I've always had a TV in my room. I watch TV at all hours, especially now that I have a DVR.

We don't have a TV in our bedroom. I know that either one of us would be tempted to watch it while the other was sleeping and it would just be distracting. I also loving having space in my bedroom and to give away more space in it just seems like a crime.

How else do you drown out the barrage of thoughts at night? My mind runs a mile a minute unless I can fall asleep with the distraction of the tv...

We have one tv and it's in its own room! I hate tvs in the living room when one has company (guys watch sports and ignore women) and I don't want one in the bedroom because my housemate would probably always have it on.

Not in my bedroom, but we have one in the living room (we rarely entertain, so conversation is not the purpose of that room), the workout room (OK, "family room" where the exercise bike sits -- I WANT it to be the workout room!), and (ta-da) the Home Theater (which is the reason for building our new house.) The projection screen is over 100 inches, we have two tiers of recliner chairs, and it's all totally insane. My "domestic partner" is a software engineer and this is his big hobby/obsession. I am not allowed to watch HGTV there, so I am more fond of the living room set. But the theater great for movie night with Blu-ray discs.
