Best Products: Double Stainless Steel Turntable

Spin me round. Although I'm not a major gourmet in any way, I somehow have managed to accumulate a variety of spices. I don't have a traditional spice rack, as I never really liked the look of all the spices out there in the open. Instead, I like to keep them inside the nearby cabinet.

In the past, that would lead to the inevitable game of trying to find the right spice via blindly lifting one up from the sea of caps to see if I got the right one I was looking for. That all changed when I found one of these stacked turntables. Everything fit inside, and now I'm able to just spin the wheel to locate what I need. It has been such a godsend in my culinary pursuits, keeping things organized and providing extra storage space in the cabinet as well. The first one I got was plastic, and somehow over time, one of the legs snapped, leaving a highly unstable situation. If I only had this excellent stainless steel version, the problem could have been avoided. Do any of you use one of these, or do you prefer your spices in a spice rack on display? The Double Stainless Steel Turntable is available at The Container Store ($24.99)

I have a similar item right now. Mine is a metal mesh instead of solid stainless and has slight sides to keep things from launching off on a spin. It effectively holds more than 50 jars/boxes of spices but....it really eats up counter space. It has probably taken over 1.5 square feet in order to allow for the rotation it cant be jammed against the wall. I am in the process of considering a wall mounted solution; (metal bars and magnetized tins, incredibly shallow shelves and matching old timey bottles or even test tubes and a test tube rack wall mounted). If you can sacrifice the space it is great. Or perhaps find a spinner that fits in the cabinet, remember though upper cabinets are on 12" deep.

I have a slim drawer dedicated to my spices. They lay in rows on their "backs" so that I can see all the labels just by opening it.

It's precious kitchen storage real estate but it's worth it in terms of ease and seeing what you've got. It's also a cool, dry and dark way to house them, keeping the potency of each spice as long as possible.

Big fan of the turntable for all but most-used spices (aka salt and pepper).

I do like the look of the clear-faced, magnetized jobbies you stick on a strip of metal (or the fridge!) but I'll be damned if I'm going to fork over the dough for 30-odd containers.

I have these exact turntables, too. Growing up with plastic ones I was so excited to find these, and they have not disappointed. Mine aren't wobbly at all; I did really crank all the spools, but I don't have any heavy canisters on them. The lip keeps things in place really well. Overall they've really streamlined my cooking and eliminated a lot of frustration.
