We saw this on New York Magazine's "Best Bets" page and thought it was pretty cool. This wall unit/magazine rack/letter holder is from the fancy B&B Italia in New York. New York Magazine refers to it as a vertical coffee table, but to us it's like a funky twist on the French ribbon bulletin board.
With the price tag ranging from $4,279-$7,253, we have an instinct (and lack of funds) to try to recreate this on our own, We don’t know how yet but it sure would be swell set up as a divider between our office and dining room.

It's hard to tell from the tiny photos, but I think it is actually constructed the same way as a ribbon bulletin board, only they've woven fabric in different lengths and widths, and there are some strips that overlap for several stripes.
They claim it's made of felt, though the fabric looks thinner than the usual fabric-store felt. It also looks as if the fabric has been folded and ironed to give smooth edges. I'd be tempted to try it with a thin flannel instead of felt, definitely using 60" or 72" fabric.
So all you'd need is a frame (office surplus or built of plumbing pipe), a lot of non-raveling fabric, and a good deal of patience. Well, possibly a second person to help weave over that scale.
