Things From Ikea That Don't Suck: Shopping Like It's Christmas Morning!

Trensum mirror .jpgWe took a little trip out to the Carson Ikea to have a look around. Since it's impossible for us to walk away empty-handed, we thought we'd share.

We got a Trensum Mirror which is simple in design, works like any other and at $9.99, can't be beat.
glimma tea candles .jpgGlimma Tea candles $2.99 for 100, and Hushall Pillar Candles ($3.99/ 20 pack) are such good prices that while we do love the occasional hand-dipped, designer candle, bulk is best for those of us who burn daily.

sq plate.jpgFinally, we can't walk by the house wares without throwing a few 365 square side plates ($2.99) into the cart.
We picked up a soft taupe and smoky blue which we will use as extra serving pieces.

P.S. We didn't get any this time but they have a whole new series of boxes and storage in great colors and patterns (even pink- how hip are they?!)

It seems like the only time I go to IKEA is to load up on their candles. I live 2 blocks from where the bus leaves so it's an easy trip for me. They're so cheap. I need a handcart just to get them home but with large pillars about $3.50/ea. it's worth the trip. I burn candles every night and go thru them like water. As it turns out, BB&B also have the packs of 100 tealights for $4.95 so I go there if I can't make it to IKEA.

There are lots of things there that are worthwhile, and many, many, more that are not.
I put my vote in for the metal storage bins (I also notice these peeking out from hipster closets and kitchens in such rags as Dwell, etc.).
I have also had some fun buying things from Ikea and hybridizing them into something new; such expirements are worthwhile since the initial cost is low, and much cheaper than buying wood, fittings, hardware, etc.
Finally, while I have lots of vintage chairs scattered about my living spaces, I always find the cheap old Poang chair the most versatile and functional chair in my house. In fact, I recently moved it up from its place in the study to the living room, Poang rocks.
