Blogging... Trading Spaces and Goil!

Laure's post last Friday was all about desert getaways, and coincidently, we actually went to Palm Springs this weekend. Sadly, as most of us living in So Cal right now know, it was not exactly the most ideal "desert" weather. The rain storm forced us to stay indoors Saturday night, and well... there wasn't much to do... except watch tv. So we caught the much publicized return of Paige Davis to Trading Spaces...

Now, we'll admit, we used to watch Trading Spaces. It was a guilty pleasure when it first came out, but we lost interest after awhile and we haven't checked back recently (we didn't even know it was still on!) Anyway, the show itself is pretty much the same-o same-o except they're placing more emphasis on the back story of the homeowners. However, one thing that caught our attention was in the preview part of upcoming shows. Trading Spaces now has Goil Amornvivat as part of their cast of designers! You may remember Goil as one of the contestants on Season 1 of Top Design. We actually really liked Goil's designs, so we'll be keeping an eye out on what ideas he has with that $1000/ 2 days criteria. Apparently, Goil is a recent addition to the cast and has only done one episode pre-Paige Davis's return. Did anyone else catch Trading Spaces this weekend, and/or has anyone seen what Goil has done so far?

I too was an avid TS watcher till about 2004... Then it just became the same old tiring thing with home owners unwilling to allow the designers to make any changes ("Oh, that precious 1980s brick"). Surprised to hear that it is still on.

I just got caught up in other things. However, I loved watching the different mixes of styles of homeowners and designers. There were few enough designers that we got to know them and their general approach. It was fun watching the mix play out. Sometimes an expected success, an expected disaster, an unexpected success or an unexpected disaster. The only thing for sure was that the reactions were typically pretty extreme.

I'll admit it, along with mac and cheese from the blue box and Justin Timberlake...TS is one of my guilty pleasures. I watched it religiously until Paige Davis left and they went with a creepy host-less format, then I thought it was cancelled. But I caught it this weekend, and while it's pretty much the same old-school TS, I don't care! Why mess with the formula! It's comforting...just like mac and cheese from the blue box.

I saw the one episode that Goil was on. It was actually really good. He decorated a living room for a couple of guys. It included some of his mobile furniture that he was so into on Top Design. He also used some amazing wall paper, and made little landing-strip catch-alls from urinals. As Fortunately for him, he was designing for a rather hipster couple. I can't say how the reception would have been had it been anyone else.
