Blogging...Jodi's Creative Space on Uppercase

042709_Uppercase00.jpgWhile there's a lot of evidence pointing to the fact that magazines are reaching its demise, we're hoping that some of the smaller, specialized ones will survive, like Canada's Uppercase magazine. What started out as a gallery in Downtown Calgary founded by Janine Vangool and Deidre Martin has now expanded to include a blog, books, paper goods, and a quarterly magazine. If you haven't visited their blog yet, it's a fantastic source for inspiration. We found this sweet work studio in Australia submitted by one of their readers Jodi who plans using her space for bookbinding, sewing, and creating. More photos and links after the jump!

042709_Uppercase01.jpgA bookbinding station sits in the corner next to Ikea's Vika Gruvan/Vika Artur table. Above it, an long floating Lack shelf holds other supplies, and clever use of Ikea's Dignitet curtain wire holds inspiring photos and drawings. The filing cabinet wallpaper are from Deborah Bowness.

042709_Uppercase02.jpgWe absolutely love Jodi's color palette and how it's used throughout the studio: The bright yellow of her Dutch door is used as an accent color within the space, mainly for her filing cabinet labels and storage (looove her vintage suitcases mixed in with traditional organizer boxes). A nice muted grey is painted on the interior of the bottom shelves and matches perfectly with a set of boxes below in addition to her chair and the wallpaper. Warm brown tones--especially from her suitcases and vintage clock--give the space personality; and the white of all the large furniture pieces make this small space feel open while keeping everything organized.

042709_Uppercase03.jpgTwo levels of Lack shelves offer space for treasures as well as anchoring lighting. Similar lights: Ikea's Clamp Spotlight.

042709_Uppercase04.jpgA whimsical wall decal of a mouse outside of his home is subtle and charming. Available at Etsy shop, MonkeyThreads.

Ughhh...sometimes the sloppy editing on this site makes me crazy.

"reaching demise" not "reaching its demise."

"plans using her space..."

"wallpaper from Deborah" not "wallpaper are from Deborah."

Case of the Monday blues? This site provides a ridiculous amount of entertainment. Thousands of inspirations... I don't think the point of this site is to have immaculate grammar.

Enjoy the idea, don't nitpick it only makes the world a more harsh place.

I cringe at grammar mistakes, as well...but the fact of the matter is this: Turnover on sites like Apartment Therapy is a lot shorter than, say, a print magazine or newspaper. You have less time to do just as much work as a print publication because it's digital media and it has to be done now-now-NOW. So not so much time for editing.

Totally unrelated to the post. I love those spotlights...the linked IKEA ones are hideous, but Jodi's are nice.

I have those Ikea Clamp Spotlights on Lack shelves over my desk. I have to say I do prefer Jodi's. The Clamp lights barely open wide enough to fit on the shelves. I had to saw the bolts off them so they'd open wider. They also stick out quite far, so I ended up attaching them to the corners instead of the front. If I could afford to replace them right now I would. I just posted a pic on my blog if you want to see:
