Blogging...My Funny Eye

010809_famapa1.jpgOh man. You know when you find a blog or a Flickr that is chockfull of beautiful photos featuring a cozy home, a lovely family...perhaps an adorable cat snoozing in a nest of striped blankets in the afternoon light? Yes, it's incredibly inspiring because these are "real" homes, not staged for a magazine shoot; and it's great to see how other people arrange popular items that you may have in your own home (like, say, the Ikea Lack floating shelf or Expedit). Well, you might want to add this blog to the list of "Inspiring Homes That Make Me Green With Envy (Really, Can Your Place Be Any More Perfect?)": My Funny Eye. Check out a few of our favorites of Famapa's London home after the jump...

White is dominant in this home, but it's not sterile-looking at all, thanks to the variety of rich wood tones, cozy velvet texture (sofa cushion), and saturated colors from the votive candle holders and strong graphic prints hanging on the wall. One thing we particularly loved about Famapa's home was how it didn't feel overly "matchy"--instead, it feels pulled together naturally by the patterns and things that her family really loves.

The small, sleek white-and-stainless steel kitchen is personalized with kitschy Japanese heads (above the range hood) and an effective use of pretty pot holders and trays. Also, since we've been on a bit of kitchen storage kick: we really like the repetition of the two white vases, one holding metal utensils and the other holding wooden spoons and spatulas.

There's not much more we can add to this photo...except to say that we love this dining table and runner; we want to have tea; and cinnamon rolls never looked so good. That is all.

Usually, when we see a photo set up like this, it's always featuring some grand fireplace. So this is a nice change: a piano paired with a vintage chair instead of the tradition bench, and a floor lamp in lieu of a typical brass piano lamp. Plus, the built-in shelves are organized in such a way that it's seemingly perfectly sized for each collection.

This family has an impressive toy and DVD collection! And it's showcased in such a way that it doesn't feel overwhelming--in fact, it just adds to the personality of the home. Sure, dusting might be tough, but the gallery-like display of their toys look great.

This home is not my style, but I love it because it is so obviously very them. I wish more homes looked like their owners.

very inspiring

the whole atmosphere of this home doesn't feel overly forced...just naturally appealing.

This is a great looking place. It has a wonderful feel. Kudos to the folks living there.

However, the contention that it's not "staged" is one I'd take issue with. It's far too tidy, well lit, and the pictures are framed too nicely for this not to be somewhat set up for these great shots.

Really cozy, despite the fact that it's a lot of white. The "kitschy Japanese heads" is actually Norwegian noodle packets :-)
