apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Blogging...Shedblog and Shedworking

For those of us who've had fantasies of living, Thoreau style, on Walden pond in a minimalist cabin we may have drooled over streamlined prefabs nestled in forests or dreamed of going off the grid right here in the city. They're great fantasies, but a closer reality might be the humble garden shed, more prevalent in the UK than here in the states, but a great idea nonetheless. The small space once used to hold tools and potting soil is now used as a home office, for outdoor entertaining, as a study, as a playroom and even for gardening. And thanks to two UK blogs Shedblog and Shedworking we get a peek into the tiny world:

1. The Ark, an artists retreat on the water from Shedworking.

2. The Raised Shed on Shedblog.

3. Wigwam Shed on Shedblog

4. The Clarkson MK1 shed made from reclaimed materials from the owner's home remodel on Shedblog.

5. The Writer's Cabin from Shedworking.

6. Garden Offic Commutes on Shedworking

Some people even use garden sheds for a little, um, privacy.

To see more check out Shedworking and Shedblog.

Also, check out a bacyard tool shed office we featured last year.

I've always wanted a yurt to use as a studio in the backyard, but they're not exactly cheap.

The second picture with the shed next to the building looks rather odd.....but the other ones are great.
