Blogging...Small Space Inspiration from Metropolitan Home

31809-blog01.jpgIn this, the first week of the Cure, our Curees are looking pictures for inspiration. Many may be lamenting what's to be done given the constraints of their small spaces. But once again, here seen in the home of the 4th Finalist in the Met Home Winners Contest, we prove that just because your space is small doesn't mean your ideas, and the results, can't be big...

Anu Suebsawangkul is a do-it-yourselfer who takes her projects, and her design inspiration, seriously. She finds her style through a tightly controlled palette of black and white, accented by touches of red, and a strong influence from her interior design style guru, the imperious Dorothy Draper. The all white palette lets a queen sized bed and a full-sized couch fit into the small space without overwhelming it.

The black and white wallpattern echos the zebra rug and the pillow. It's not wallpaper though. She painted it herself by hand.

Although there's a lot of stuff crammed into this small space, the clean white palate and the carefully designated areas give it the feeling of a larger space. Breaking up your space into "rooms" not only controls clutter but it fools the eye into thinking that a space is more expansive than it actually is.

31809-blog06.jpgSmall and uncluttered doesn't have to mean devoid of accessories or boring. Just choose wisely and allow small things to make a big impact. Here, the starburst mirror, the matching lamps and the judicious choice of red are glamourous without being fussy.

I do love what was done here on a budget.

Seems like AT really loves this home too . . .

it is nice, but am I the only one that thinks it looks like a hotel jr suite?

Also, the bathroom appears carpeted...

Yeah, it's a little too white for me personally. I find it is far more daring and takes better design skills to incorporate color rather than make everything a white wash. Do you have to take your shoes off prior to entering this space? Are white gloves required to visit here?

I think it's nice and fresh... but not at all practical. and I thought the same thing the first seventy times I saw this room on various blogs.

I like it, this is the size of room that I had growing up... which it had this much style. At least, for staging ideas this room works wonders... like others have said, the white isn't so practical in here.
