The June 2008 issue of HOME magazine features a house tour of interior designer Jeff Andrews. Andrews' home is a 1924 Spanish-style house that is about 1400 sq. foot. He used a lot of rich dark brown tones throughout the space. He says "I've found that a really dark color in a low-sheen finish has no boundaries to it; it's less space-defining, which makes a room appear larger..."

In the bedroom, he kept the window trim light and had the curtains just a few shades darker than the wall color. (We love the bedding!).
In the bathroom, "to make it less constricted, Andrews' replaced built-ins with a freestanding sink and cabinets.

His living room is the same color as mine - I've had it this color for the past 3-4 years and I just love it.

It feels very calming - gorgeous. I like the rug in the bedroom. I do wish I had the nerve to paint a room that color.

That chaise, that slate blue, the earthy-modernness. The rugs, the lamps, the upholstering!!
This is my dream home.

bepsf-- what paint color did you use?

PhillyLass -
I used Benjamin Moore's "Black Bean Soup" (I'll never forget the name) - Their "professional grade" paint gave me excellent coverage over the old yellow paint I had previously and was well worth the extra few bucks.
